here we are again

why is it, in every Christmas movie that's out there, the mom pretty much always has a son, (single), while the dad has a girl...

I think that there's been one Christmas movie where that hasn't happened....

I have noticed there's rarely a Christmas tv movie that doesn't involve romance if not a marriage in the making. Much like Disney's need for one dead parent. But I don't care really. It's sappy and silly and I will watch one every night until Christmas! When I want true Christmas movies then I break out our Christmas DVD's of the classics that are rarely shown on tv like Bogart's We're No Angels and The Man Who Came to Dinner. Then my whole extended family gathers on X-mas Eve and we watch hours of A Christmas Story and better known classics like It's A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol followed by Doctor Who on X-mas day!!

My obsession with Christmas movies started with the 25 days of Christmas on Family channel. My kids just loved it. We'd snuggle up in bed with cocoa and popcorn or cookies every night for 1 show. Those are memories my hubby and I cherish and hope our grown & almost grown kids do as well!! Nothing like the old Christmas cartoons to get you in the spirit!!

I'd like to see is a lovely, well budgeted, perfectly cast movie of The Gift of the Magi. That would do my heart some good at Christmas time!! Until then I'll watch dogs saving Christmas and single parents finding love as much as my hubby can bear!

Happiest upcoming Holidays everyone!!

Thank you for such a wonderful post! My family did the same with the 25 Days of Christmas! Year Without a Santa, Drummer Boy, Nestor, Leprechan's Christmas Gold, First Christmas Snow...don't you just love them?! And of course the movies, too, my personal favorite being White Christmas. It's not quite the same anymore, but I still love Christmas programming.

Which brings us to Northpole, which I found very disappointing after all the hype and product marketing. Like so many here, I thought it would actually take place in Northpole, which they did an amazing job of creating. But no such luck. Now I'm just hoping that the hotel one that they are already promoting for next year will actually take place in Northpole. We'll see.

Have you ever seen "The Gift of Love" starring a young Marie Osmond from 1978 with Timothy Bottoms. I have not seen it in forever and cannot seem to find online but I remember being very touched by it. It is a take on "The Gift of the Magi" I remember the ending brought on the tears. Here is a trailer for it but does not really give much about it.

I did see the 2010 "The Gift of the Magi" Hallmark movie but again just a take on it and modernized. It was okay but not great because the original story is way more touching than that movie was.

Have you also seen "One Magic Christmas" It has a depressing theme during the first part of it which is not so depressing once the ending is revealed and that is what makes it very special and moving.

I haven't seen that! Is it on Hallmark, Family Channel, Uplifting?!?

They do all seem to have the same things and what you stated is common but once in a while there are those where it is a child of the same sex. In "A Christmas Wish" the mom is abandoned by her husband but she has two daughters and a stepson. I've not seen it but sounds terrible not only he abandons daughters but a son from another marriage. "The Christmas Shoes" the mother dies leaving a son there with his father. "Borrowed Hearts" is a single mother with a daughter. "Christmas Romance" has a mother whose husband has died and she has 2 daughters. "One Magic Christmas" has both parents alive and they have a son and a daughter. "A Holiday to Remember" has a mother and daughter. "Christmas Comes Home to Canaan" has a single father with a teenage son. "Mrs. Miracle" has a single father with twin sons. "A Season for Miracles" had a somewhat different sort of unique family relationship. It had an aunt taking care of her niece and nephew due to their mother being hospitalized for overdosing on drugs again so she apparently had an addiction problem. "Catch A Christmas Star" has a widower where he has a son and a daughter. There are probably more but that is the ones I found right off through searching and memory of the ones I had seen.
