I find her very annoying.

She comes off as too much of a Bitch. Even if she had cured Cancer,Diabetes and Aids... she still shouldn't act like such a stuck up bitch all the time.

I've just watched the second episode and I don't think I can't keep watching this show if I keep feeling annoyed by her.

Add the fact that the stories haven't been that interesting so far doesn't help....I'm probably only going to give this show 1 or 2 more episodes before I stop watching.

I am really confused too, because I am not sure if it's the Actress that annoys me or the words the character is saying.

Like the scene where the guy wants to jump off the hospital roof...the way she talks to him.... is it the script or the actress that annoyed me.. idk.

She is nice then there are times she is just too Bitchy.

I think I had this problem with Claire Danes/Carrie Mathison from homeland too... it was hard to watch at first because I found her so annoying. But eventually I got used to her facial expressions.

She's suppose to be this brilliant doctor so I guess someone of that stature would come across as brash and arrogant. House MD was an *beep* too remember.

reply

IRL most surgeons I have met act insufferably superior. I have not had the experience of interacting with a female surgeon but I'd imagine it would be similar.

?? Jennifer Beals is older than Kyra...Kyra is 49, and Beals is 51.

reply

kyra is younger and that has already been said. i find it very interesting that you mention her as producer, because i feel that her character absolutely ruined "the closer". specifically, great "cops and robbers" scripts were cluttered with and overshadowed by brenda johnson's seemingly endless array of foibles. i really did not care about the sweets, her cat, or her inability to separate her career from her personal life. i just wanted to enjoy the story line and its outcome.

by the way, i hoped it would all "go away" with "major case", but now we have rusty continuously casting a pall upon otherwise great scripts. the show would be great without that character, imho.

reply

Kayak Sedgwick is two years younger than Jennifer Beals.

Agree op:
My wife and I were turned off almost immediately by her attitude and just couldn't get past that. And to the other poster; yes House was the same way but he had a self deprecating humor. Beaks is all serious and humorless. I know all brown nosers can relate to a boss like that but for those of us that have pride; ages intolerable. Fail. Won't be back. The stories suck too.

reply

She's intolerable.

reply

Totally agree! Just about every other character given any measure of a role comes across with some measure of agreeability ....not so for Jennifer Beals character....just constant bitch. If we are going to feel empathic about her own loss, the writers need to give us someone we can at least care about.

Hopefully, you're being serious and aren't going to be one of those obnoxious people that keeps watching a show they dislike but also visiting the forum, posting their complaints and mocking fans and apologists.

Agree. Hard to listen to her rudeness.

reply

Very annoying! But the cliche female teenager and the ex husband is the same in every series on tv. Can't she be brilliant and not a bitch?

reply

There's been a huge development on Carolyn's character since the pilot episode. Thank fúcking god they changed her attitude!

reply

Agree.

Interesting concept, well produced and acted, she's great looking but so annoying and bitchy. Being a pain in the ass can work - House, becker, etc - but here she's really hard to take.

She's not stuck-up for being a disbeliever in the afterlife.

That's not what upsets viewers. It's her relentless and aggressive condescension and even physical hostility toward almost everyone. She is insufferably rude to her superior, the intern, the billionaire who is willing to donate an entire wing to the hospital, the visiting medium (whatever she thinks of his profession, it doesn't give her a license to treat him like dirt). She goes into every situation as if every human interaction is just an excuse to put people down.

No wonder the people on the other side told the little girl to stop telling her anything.

reply

Well I am glad I am not the only one. I don't think it's the actress, its the character. She really is just nasty to everyone and I like the show but it is making it hard to watch. She has lost her son so you have to consider that, but I just don't like her. I am a nurse and yes surgeons can be arrogant at work but not always in their personal life. This woman is just rude, and I am tired of her constantly threatening the rich guy with quitting the project every time he blinks.

reply

She's cynical and harsh but never arrogant though.

reply

I love this post. I hope she lightens up soon.

reply

I thought I was the only one who felt this way. She's insufferable. .

reply

House actually had earned the right to be rude, he was THE best in the world at what he did acknowledged by everyone. And he was still nicer than Dr.Tyler.

She is what, a regular surgeon in a regular hospital? She has no credibility to act like that.

reply

I think maybe she acts more like an Ahole Cop then Doctor.

Maybe that's the problem, maybe I wouldn't mind as much is this was a Cop show, It doesn't help that the character goes back and forth from being warm and showing smiles to being cold and scolding.

reply

For me it's something about the actress. She's beautiful but seems cold much like the way I see Anna Gunn in everything she's made. I love other actresses that have or have had assertive roles like Kyra Sedgwick, Mary McDonnell, Tia Leoni so it's not that they're women. It's like the former are almost incapable of portraying real warmth as well as strength.

Agreed. I was really interested in the premise of this show, but between her being so unlikeable and the stories ending up being self-contradicting, I find my interest waning. Maybe when I don't have anything else to watch I'll consider checking on it again, but right now, there're better shows that'd keep me interested.

reply

This herd mentality is outta control.

There is nothing wrong with the lead character.

The writing, however, needs much improvement.

I have spoken.
