Campbell Scott playing himself playing on Broadway

That's kinda odd! I love Campbell Scott and I think he's still got it at 55, but what the hell is he doing playing an embarrassing version of himself in an embarrassing fictionalized Broadway musical ('Familton' loosely inspired by the real Broadway show 'Hamilton') in a TV show about the revival of rock & roll ?
Are they just using Campbell to promote the musical 'Hamilton' and raise awareness for the upcoming 2017 national tour? Because Campbell Scott is becoming a Broadway regular performer and he is longtime friends with Leary who wrote and produced this show.
Could anyone tell me some details?

He's playing a send up of a self important pompous actor who think every idea they have is the greatest thing ever. I imagine he's having a ball doing the role and he's been one of the few highlights of what has been a disappointing season.

I loved the idea of a hip hop musical based on the Irish Potato Famine. Seems like a project that washed-up rockers would be involved in.

The night beckons, like a finger curling and uncurling as if to say "Hey, come here."
