Notice a lot of movies include a guy who used to have a promising career but they realized they missed their actual calling and now work a job not requiring a degree? Seems to be a common theme now.
My theory: Working-class by choice, not by necessity, is an idealized Hallmark fantasy. Anyone with a career requiring a degree is a little suspect because they're not salt-of-the-earth working-class types. On the other hand, many working class people can't afford to shop at Hallmark stores for their obscenely overpriced cards, wrapping paper, plastic figurines and ornaments, and other effluvia. So the network has to appeal to a mix of the two--in the case of this silly movie, a guy who isn't tied down to a busy law career and can run off to Yosemite on a whim, yet somehow can still afford to buy a kayak and all that camping gear.
I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!
