Religious propaganda

This movie is full of pure religious propaganda, Just cant seem to watch it.

I felt the prayers and talk of God was very disconnected and out of context. It was like they were trying to mesh together different denominations and beliefs. I don't feel it was religious propaganda because there wasn't a cohesive message.

I don't think it's religious propaganda. I think it was made as a comedy for atheists, because I found it hilarious. Try watching it again, and think of it as a comedy.

No need to say you haven't watched it. It's obvious from your title already.

How is the movie "religious propaganda"?

They completely ridicule the Christianity business and there's not one verified moment any of their BS prayer is even shown to work.
The main protagonist doubts what she's doing for the duration of the movie and never gets over what she's done.
The only moment she gets through to people is when she stops following the BS scripts and talk to the people calling like they're human beings talking to a human being, not a prayer machine paid to sell prayers.

I'd say that's pretty much anti-religion.

If she'd decided to stay on, been shown performing a miracle through prayer, been to Church to pray the devil from her soul or any other religious nonsense, then yeah I guess you could say that.

None of this happens though. It's a movie about a person's struggle with the insanity and shallow void of the religion business and empty traditions. As the movie goes, she just decides there's nothing to struggle with because nothing is there. It's a pretty unambiguous movie about religion and it's not pro-religion at all.

You're forgetting that Cora knelt and prayed over the woman she accidentally hit with her car, laid hands on her, and the woman got up and walked away, obviously receiving a full healing, all of which are biblical concepts. This only happened, of course, when Cora wasn't "following the BS script," as you say.

So, yeah, the movie is against go-through-the-motions Christian religion (notice I said religion) and amusingly satirizes it, but it's not necessarily anti-God, anti-Scripture, anti-faith or anti-spirituality. I'm not saying it's a "faith-based" film, but it ain't no atheistic manifesto either. For one thing, the believers aren't painted in a negative light. Satirically amusing? Yes. Negative? No.

Technically, every movie has some form of propaganda. There are some truths and some willful lies in every film. I'm a Christian and I think most movies about religion rely too much on naive audiences. I actually think this movie portrays religion in a satirical way.
The only reason I watched it is because of William H. Macy, I love his acting.
