Natasha L. Is gorgeous in any universe let alone state. I do not understand the joke though why is that an insult? ,..not many pretty girls in MA?

There's just something funny about being told you're only pretty in one state. I think we have to assume that the women in Rhode Island think they are prettier than those in Massachusetts in the context of this show.

You seem to have figured it out. May be true or untrue -- beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all -- but Rikki implied all MA girls are busted. Simple

It's a joke that the women who were not "pretty" enough for Newport in the early 20th century went up to Lenox, Massachusetts instead. It's an Edith Wharton reference (she was a popular writer in the early 1900s) who notoriously hated living amongst the society people in Newport, so she sold her family's mansion and moved to Massachusetts.

it may also be a sly reference to one of Garfunkel and Oat's song "Pretty in Buffalo". Band member Rikki Lindhome is the co-creator/co-lead of the show.. and Kate Micucci has several guest star roles as "Eunice".
