Russian village in the 21st century

The film provided a nice view into village life in today's Russia. The director could have easily chosen some completely abandoned village with no people, ruined houses, no electricity, etc. But instead, he took a more moderate approach and showed us a village that was not in a worse possible shape - it had residents, mostly older people, but there were also some young ones living or at least visiting; the village seemed to have reasonably good boat connection to a town; and most strikingly, each house had a satellite TV. The scenes of people sitting in their old houses, in a distant Siberian village, all watching the same TV shows, were the symbolic scenes in the film. That's contemporary village life.
