One of the most adept analysis I've read on this subject. I was aware of it, but I don't write or initiate discussions about it because it's not my place to comment on another person's cultural experiences. But I have read on Chinasmack and Koreabang comments from Asian males who feel that Asian women give white men preference, even if they're old and ugly. the men were not too kind in their opinions about these women. I also read that being married to a white man or a white woman, or even being half-white in China raises that person's social status, while attaching oneself to someone black, lowers it.
The reason why I know all of this is because one of my romance novels features a Chinese male as the handsome and virile romantic lead (it's an actual published novel). So I had to do some research. I chose a Chinese hero because western media often castrates Asian men as nerdy, with small phalluses, "smart" but socially inept, while black men are often depicted as being sexually potent but dumb.
Younger generations of American women find Asian men attractive, and immerse themselves in various types of Asian culture. But these types of girls are not the kind to go out and find an Asian boyfriend. In other words, he must act on finding a girlfriend if he is interested in that.
I don't think white women prefer white babies, because in my town, we have so many white women with black babies from black men. This occurs all over America. They also have children with Hispanic men. And this has angered a lot of white men, if you read some of the supremacist dogma. So why is it that white women don't interact on the same level with Asian men?
Black men are perceived as sexually aggressive. And I don't mean to stereotype black men, as I am also black. But this perception of sexual aggression an aphrodisiac for many white women, whose fathers told them to stay away from sex and black men. Some of them simply can't stand white men, or find them unattractive. white women don't place as much value on being white the way Asians do culturally, or the way white men do, for that matter. On the same token, black women have been angry that these women are "taking away" black men. So it has turned into a big circus hasn't it?
The white male ex-pats on Chinasmack were equally rude, claiming they speak Chinese/mandarin better than actual Chinese people, and that the women claim that once they had sex with white men, it was like they had lost their virginity twice (ie, not really losing it the first time due to the sexual ineptitude of Asian men). It was despicable. But then they complain that black men are taking their women (and they do), and now the complaint is that the standard of beauty in America is defined in a way that attracts black men (full lips, big or round bottoms). And there is some truth in that. So they attach themselves to Asian women, believing that those women are submissive and small. they even claim that Asian women have smaller vaginas. It's really ridiculous some of the things these men say or write, especially online.
These are terrible stereotypes and untrue for both groups. The only way to end these stereotypes is take ones image back from white mainstream media. I had planned to use a black heroine as the lead in that romance novel, but doing more research, I discovered that Chinese/Asian males are generally not as attracted to black females, and that it does impact their social standing, so I stripped the heroine of her ethnicity and allowed the reader to decide her race. I don't take personal offense to those preferences because I know that peoples cultures are very different, as is their standard of beauty.
That's what I love about South Korean movies, is that I can get a different image of what people are like. That Asian men can be attractive, sexy and sexual (like in Green Chair or Sweet Sex and Love, or Housemaid). You NEVER see that in American movies. Ever. I can only think of one movie where the Asian character was supposed to be attractive, and it was a movie with Brooke Shields, I believe, and the guy went crazy at the end and stalked her.
