Okay, so Violet and her friends went through the whole Babylonian (?) ritual so that Violet would be resurrected in Vivian's body, I get that. But aside from the dozens of other questions I have, the biggest one is WHY? Did Violet kill herself the previous semester and have her friends hide her body in that box in the basement that Vivian eventually stumbled across? Why the hell did she do this? Because she believed in the ritual and everything surrounding it and wanted to do it....just because? Did she somehow know that Vivian would end up being accepted to the school and provide a suitable vessel for her? It would have made a lot more sense to me if we had learned that Violet had had, like, a terminal illness or something. But instead we're supposed to believe that she went through this whole ritual just because she wanted to see if it worked? Meh.

I took it more like the ritual would make her beautiful and powerful forever. And you heard Sarah say that she was so engrossed in herself (Violet) and even though she was seen as very attractive it was not enough ... for why Vivian? To me it looked like they tried it on other girls such as the blond chick who ended up getting murdered for warning Vivian.

Why did Violet even kill herself then? Did she do it because she hated herself, so they kept her body until the "perfect vessel" came along? And Vivian was hardly perfect (at first). I thought Violet wanted perfection...?

It was a decent film but I don't get the why either. Violet kills herself because although she is gorgeous, she thinks she still isn't pretty enough and wanted to resurrect herself in the body of a shy, reserved, unattractive girl?

And then the ritual turns Vivian into Violet to every last detail, down to her eye and hair color! So what was the point of the whole exercise to begin with?

And who killed Sue? They never answered that question either!

I assumed Sarah had pushed the blonde as she came out the dorm just as Vivian and Philip arrived, although what I don't understand is how Sarah got to the dorm BEFORE Vivian and Philip as they left her behind just a few seconds before that

This is how I'm seeing it.
Violet was supposedly never happy with herself as she was, we all assume they mean her "looks". But what if they really meant she wasn't just happy with being the prettiest girl and still wanted more, ie magical power, that would mean that the entire point of sacrificing herself and then by the process of tea, dolls and cuts, force herself into Vivians body, she now had the looks and the power.
I am also assuming that as they hid Violets body everyone on campus thinks she's still alive, so no need to explains how she's suddenly alive, the guy in the party that calls her violet suggests this also.
