Sorry But the Warriors (1979) made the gangs in West Side Story look like a bunch of Pussies.
Fight Me.
shareFight Me.
shareAwwww....come off of it! I don't buy that, especially because different types of gangsters look different ways. Besides, unlike "The Warriors", "West Side Story is a musical.

“The Warriors: the Musical”. Great idea! CAN YOU DIG IT?
the warriors is just as ridiculous and over the top, they dress as clowns and ride roller skates
shareWarriors had long pretty perms and looked like Village People if they had a gang member. At least the West Side Story gangs dressed like normal people and wore their hair short.
shareI happened to enjoy "The Warriors". It doesn't hold the same special place in my heart regarding the old, original 1961 film version of "West Side Story", but I liked it, nonetheless. Also, not all of the "Warriors" dressed the way you described them.
shareEnough of "The Warriors" do dress that way. 70s hairstyles and clothes are not among fashion's finest moments.
"The Warriors" was ok and I saw it once which was enough for me. But, West Side Story is a classic. Perhaps the OPs criticism is about their singing and dancing, but the music is great and they had to be athletic to do some of those dances.
I agree with you about the original 1961 film version of West Side Story being a classic, and about the dancing in the 1961 film version of WSS being beautifully choreographed--and fantastic. The music is great, and the people who made up the cast would not only have to be athletic, but to also be able to dance, as well.
I've seen the trailer to Spielberg's upcoming film version of West Side Story, and the dancing in that one seems too hyped up to me. Plus, I like the opening aerial birds' eye view of 1960's NYC's West Side better than the opening of the upcoming 2021 film version of West Side Story.
I was looking forward to another classic shown on TV, The Sound of Music with Carrie Underwood. I turned it off after two minutes even though I liked the trailer.
I'm curious to see Spielberg's version, but I doubt if it'll ever replace the original. At least for me.
Frankly, I don't think that Spielberg's film version of West Side Story will ever, ever even come close to topping the old, original 1961 film version of West Side Story!
shareIt's so sad to me that you insist on perpetuating the ridiculous myth that a new version seeks to better the original. That's not why remakes are made.
I like the original, I grew up with it.
The trailer for the new one looks excellent to me.
And as we have probably discussed before, such shows are revamped in the theatre all the time and no one bats an eyelid.
Granted they are different mediums, but the point is the same.
No, the trailers on the original 1961 film version of West Side Story and Spielberg's upoming film version of West Side Story are NOT the same--not at all. I think that the trailer to Spielberg's West Side Story looks way too bombastic, too overdone, and too heavy for my liking.
shareI never said both trailers are the same...you need to slow down and read posts properly before responding.
shareIf you cannot stand the fact that I have a different opinion than you do about the trailers of both the original 1961 film version, and Spielberg's film version of West Side Story, that's your problem, not mine!
shareNo, the point was you maintained that I said both trailers were the same, which I didn't. I have never stated that I have an issue with your opinion. You are entitled to it, but I and other are also entitled to disagree with you.
shareI never said that both trailers were the same, but I said that Spielberg's film version looks way overdone, too heavy, and it feels all wrong to me, and not at all like West Side Story.
shareWaaaaaaaaaariiiiiooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorsss...
shareDon't forget Gangs of New York!!!
