Tonight, Tonight, won't be just any night!

I, along with a few friends, will be attending tonight's screening of the 1961 film version of "West Side Story" at the Somerville theatre, not far from where I live! I'm excited!

reply

Good for you! Hope it went well. I went and saw TCM's screening of the movie at a local movie theatre celebrating its 50th anniversary.

reply

It went beautifully, my friends and I all had a wonderful time at both screenings two months ago, in 70mm. The film was pristine, and the soundtrack was punchy and in one's face, like it's supposed to be.

Thank you for your response.

I'm glad that you and I could find each other again. We had great conversations over at IMDb about West Side Story. I'm not sure why MovieChat didn't recover my analysis of the stage show vs. the movie to this discussion board, but I reposted it here.

reply

Thanks, StrongRex. Me, too. Imbd rescinded its message boards, giving us no choice any more. It's good that movie chat.org is there to sort of take imvd's place, however, so that we could resume the conversations we had about West Side Story.

The original 1961 film version of West Side Story will be airing on TCM, on television, at ten o'clock this coming Wednesday, September 18th. I intend to watch it. As weird as this sounds, I hope to see the original 1961 film version as many times as possible before Spielberg's reboot/remake of the film comes out.

Hope to talk to you again soon, StrongRex.

Sadly, I don't have cable and I'm working anyway, but I do have it on Blu-Ray so I can watch it as many times as I want. I watched it again recently.

reply

Ah. okay. Glad you have the original 1961 film version of West Side Story on Blu-Ray. Do you have a sizable TV and a good Blu-Ray DVD Player? Just curious.

reply

My Blu-Ray player is pretty basic, but it's served me well. I have a 50-inch screen.

reply

You've got a 50-inch screen? Wow! Mine's a 32-inch screen, because that's what barely fit into my TV cabinet.

reply

It's pretty surprising since I have a studio, but I've been told it's pretty big for a studio.

reply

Wow!! I'll be watching a late showing of the 1961 film version of West Side Story tonight. As crazy as this may sound, I want to see the original 1961 film version of West Side Story as many times as possible before the upcoming reboot/remake of the film hits the movie theaters at around Christmastime of 2020.

reply

StrngRex: Was your Blu-Ray DVD player made here in the United States, rather than overseas? Just curious. That could make a difference, too.

reply

I've been hearing that cable is on the way out. Don't know what will take its place, however.

I remember when the original 1961 film version of West Side Story was re-released for its 50th Anniversary in select movie theaters, on a national basis, here in the United States, back in the fall of 2011. I attended a 50th year Anniversary showing of the original 1961 film version of West Side Story at a Regal Cinema here in Boston, and we enjoyed every minute of it.
