Absolutely awful.

Awful.

Politically correct on steroids. Holy sh!t

I'm okay with it being different, but given the original story, I do feel like it was forced diversity agenda shoved down our throats. Contrived. I'm not ready to dismiss it because I like the dark twist of everything.

Yep, I wasn't expecting much from a modern version too.

Agree. My wife & I tried to watch it. It's not for us. We wanted to like it, but just couldn't get into it.

uh, because MY opinion counts as much as yours? :P

reply

i'm not saying it doesnt...but all you wrote was awful thats not very insightful.

Maybe they just want show runners to make shows less awful. I mean this is wasted potential, wasted money. An inefficiency in the entertainment industry. This could have been good but they made it awful.

Why?

Why did they make it awful?

I guess why doesn't matter, just please make shows less awful.

This is always the correct answer.

Someone always comes along and wonders why people are complaining about a certain show. Well, there are those of us who want to hold the entertainment industry to a higher standard.

Furthermore, some of us want to vent. Some "fans" want to talk about how "hot" certain characters are. Is that level of shallow discussion somehow better than criticisms?

reply

Why do people get so bent out of shape over diversity? Especially on a show that's based in fantasy, anything is possible. It comes across so racist when people complain about that.
The show has potential, I like that it's not the same old tired . OZ. I do hope they are able to wrap up the story before it's inevitably cancelled.

reply

Maybe we're tired of people mucking up classics instead of using their brains to come up with something original? You remember "original", right?

They have a young boy turn into a transgender female and grow breast, who pushed his friend off a balcony and the scarecrow guy who is nothing like a scarecrow, just bashed in a woman's head. Yup, I'm done with this show.

reply

Yo, will_power, maybe you should actually read the Wizard of Oz books. Then maybe you’d learn that Tip is actually Princess Ozma and she is, in fact, turned into a boy by Mombi. Even then, what should it matter if she was transgender in the show? However, in no way did they make it even closely seem she was. The freaking apothecary guy told her she turned back to her original gender because the potion wore off. Smh. Plus, I like this weird, dark revision of Wizard of Oz. But to each their own.

reply

i like the show. it feels a bit aimless/meandering a bit but i still for the most part like it (i can see i'm in the minority though. LOL).

reply

The basic idea behind wizard of oz has always been to use the fantastical as simple parables for current affairs so that our times stupidness becomes obvious dressed up in fantastical clothes.

To me this TV show does the opposite it tries so very hard to not have any type of political opinion about anything its painful.

Think its quite a polished production though its visually striking and actors are great it still comes off to me as a decent show but the story is to me intentional stupidity and being proud of it.
It does have a pleasing sense of mystery so think ill finish it so that all things are explained im a sucker for the slow unraveling when one starts of knowing nothing.

Find it bit sad that it choose to in spirit do the exact opposite of the original books which were revolutionary and highly opinionated politically.

Whilst not revolutionary, I'd argue that Tip's story has made at least couple of points: on bathrooms/trans problems and the line “So you’re saying my only choice as a girl is nun or whore?”.

Not yet seen the latest ep, but it seems like there may be something about how deadly guns are in it.

No tears please, it's a waste of good suffering.

And here I was, thinking that the show is a bit too on the nose with its stance on guns, and power in the hands of a single, egomaniac. It takes all sorts of viewers......
