Builds and Hoarders real

Being a member of the cast I can say first hand the show, car owners and build all real. There quirky people the hoarders..but real, it was though getting them to let me sell off the cars, a lot of time and planning went into each episode. The builds cost way more in some cases than seen, it's was a great show to be involved with and hope we get picked up for another season...

I really like the show I hope it makes it...plaumbo seems like a real likeable guy and the staff is talented.this and counting cars are the cream of the crop of all the car shows.

Chuck is a super nice guy as is Rick, I had a blast filming with them, and were looking forward to a second season, keeping our fingers crossed!

just watching the first episode and quite like it. i'm really hoping that dc will cut the scripted drama,

can i make a suggestion
please make one special episode looking at joe doing his trick making money from selling junk

reply

i would like to have them show more of the selling side but in a show that is 42 mins with out commercials its tough. Theres alot behind the scenes that go on with respect to selling off the cars that you the public dont see. I would like to see it show more and it has been talked about for next season between myself Rick and Chuck in the past.Maybe when the show becomes a huge hit we a a behind the lens episode,,,lol, but seriously What you dont see is when I go to the hoards weeks and months in advance to assess the collection and put a value on it, there was a few that we were ready to film and for one reason or another didnt happen. Theres 3 things they look for in a hoard, interesting collection of cars, the hoarder has a great story of why and how it came to be, and the hoarder is a interesting person and works on camera, very rarely do they get all three with a person, two makes it work. I traveled all over the southwest, northern and southern calif, and even went to Virginia to look at cars prior to any filming. there's numerous things i would do different now that i see it all edited together to improve on the show with out screwing up the concept like so many show seem to do. thanks for your support,,,

joe,

thanks for the infos

From what shown it seemed that chuck and rick look like a clueless person that know nothing about doing a car business

The show should add your recon and value assesmnet portion as a vital part of the show.

if you don't mind me asking
I'm wondering in the real world
can you make a living based on commission selling hoarders junk?
i'm assuming rick and chuck can only do a maximum 6-8 cars/hoarders a year

the business model that chuck proposed -bartering hoarders junk for a build)- is not feasible in the real world,

because
there're limited amount of hoarders and most of them collected junk not valuable antiques

time and time again proved that slamin only make a pitiful profit or even incurred a losr it won't be long before they closed the door unless the producers inject more money

heres the deal. the production company that did the episodes were from england and there spin on things were a bit different, half way through the season discovery took over the edit from them because they saw were it was going and wanted to correct it. my parts i wouldnt let them direct me too much i told them i was not going to hokey it up because thats not me or how i work, rick and chuck did there thing with them different than i did, i did not and would not let them make me look clueless in what i had to do or how i was to perform on camera and i think it came off that way and im happy about it

reply

Hey Joe
Really like the show, just hoping you can pass a message onto the producers......

"Dont go down the reality trash tv road and fill the show with fake drama!!!"

Most audiences are smart enough to know what we see on the current crop of crap shows is made up garbage.
Pawn Stars, Counting Cars..... Unfunny fat oafs, and wacky haircuts.

Gold Rush.... Fat Oafs bumbling around clueless.

America chopper..... Fat oaf father shouting at fat oaf son, whilst other fat oaf son gets head stuck in a mailbox.

I like your show, and (SPOLIER) seeing this weeks garage eviction notice made me worry its already starting to turn.
Please pass on the message that going down the scripted reality route only turns people off.... If you can

reply

eviction was real believe it or not, major problems with noise in the complex from day one of filming, we have not heard if there is a season two as of yet the entire shop is packed away in storage, Rick is doing his thing in the custom car world, Chuck is doing his bikes, im busy in the classic car game and hunting for cars, im at every auction i can be at each week someplace in the country, next stop for me is Mecum Indy in 3 weeks. the rest of the guys are back at there original jobs/shops, if we do another season, the show will be set in a new shop location should discovery decide to pick up for another season, in the mean time were doing our own thing and enjoyed what we did. I have a few other shows in the works and im always looking for other oppertunities..

Thanks for the reply man.... Hope you's do get another season. The show is good.
All the best.

I second the request to be authentic in the show. If you guys don't get a second season, you could keep the show going without a network deal. Put it online - on YouTube. I don't know if you've ever watched Roadkill, but the show is great, real, and only on YouTube. You already own the necessary domain name(s) and have your name out there thanks to Discovery. Get some cameras, hire some young people looking to put together a resume, build a website, and keep doing the show. I'd happily build your website.

Love the show, man. Just discovered it. I REALLY hope you guys are back for another season. Glad to see that you post here.

Aren't you relieved to know you're not a golem?

thank you for the compliment

I realize this is a bit late but I love the show and hope you come back. In the last episode it is memorialized of Jaynea lee Watson-Briscoe. Can you tell me was she on the show? I found a little about her online but nothing in relation to the show that wasn't spam. Thanks so much.

She was Bennys granddaughter, she past away during the season of filming...

Hey Joe,

Just discovered that the show has been renamed "Rusted Development" for a second season and they are using a different "money guy". Are you still involved with the show?

reply

Hi, no I am no longer involved in the show, discovery took it over from original production company renamed it and filmed season 2 which I believe they were contractually binded to do another season. I have another show in the works which is what caused me not to go back and do a subsequent season, as well as my part was going to be made even smaller and for the amount of work time and effort involved it wasn't worth it any longer to do. Episode 1 look real good the guys did a great build, new shop was set up in Escondido California and like last time its just built for the show it's simply a workshop studio not a real day today shop. As far as myself my business is extremely busy in the day today classic car business, I'm involved in another concept and idea for a show that we're going to start filming a pilot episode next week so if luck holds out possibly 6 months to a year we may be in production for a new season of a brand new show based out of my shop here in Phoenix Arizona I can't give any more details other than that. The new guy that took over my character on the show I do not know, & I don't know where they sold the car is off or in what venue they used to sell them. As with most of these reality shows as we all know a lot of what you see that is real actually is not it's just the way it is they have to be creative create drama and change it up a little bit so it portrays better on television not saying its all fake but let's just say some of it has to be embellished to make it more exciting. I wish Rick and Chuck the best of luck in season 2 hopefully it'll carry onto a season 3 for those guys time will tell...

Hi Joe!

I think it's pretty cool that a real person from the show is on this board!
I only recently found this show and have to say I really like it for the most part.

I was wondering if you could clear something up for me?
I'm really not sure if this is something you would know about as it may have been after you left, but in the episode 'Bird up' with the Vet that had all the MG's, at the end when they are talking about how bad his hoard was etc there is footage of his property and at 38:35 we see what appears to be a very very nice dark blue E-type jaguar.

Wouldn't something like that be worth a butt tonne?

I mean seriously isn't that like a quarter million dollar car? or am I mistaken?
Seems weird he would have that?

Anyway cheers mate and good luck with your new show!
Be sure to let us know what it's called when it happens :)

reply

I wasn't involved in season two so I can't speak about what actually happened, however alot is scripted and set up,and often there's cars sellers do not want to sell or involve in the show. It's reality yes,but it has to be messaged to make it in a show, season one they showed more and did more, I think this season is a bit weaker with less back story and more fake drama ie: missing parts, can't find wheels, that's all set up...lol. Rick and Chuck are great guys, however the show is going the way most do, hokey and fake and it shows.....

reply

Thanks for the reply Joe and I agree, this season seems a bit fake compared to the first.
