German Officers

With the excellent variety in the cast with Australian, Kiwi and British actors etc. I wonder if they going to portray the German officers at Gallipoli, in particular Otto von Sanders the senior commander during the campaign. Almost all film and tv show interpretations of the campaign never ever show the German influence on the campaign.

I've really enjoyed the show thus far, hope it continues.

I'll second that. You're right about the reflection of German alliance in films portraying the Gallipoli campaign. Anyway, I just finished watching the first episode and know already that I will not miss an episode as soon it is posted.

Dont expect to see german influence on the campaign,Otto Liman van Sanders was a consultant for the ottomans on how to modernize ottoman army...there werent any german soldiers in gallipoli,but some german artillery. Otto was the commanding officer till the 8th of august 1915.The senior officer that gives a speech in turkish,took over his role on the 8th of august who later happens to be the first president of Turkish republic...He published a letter to Anzac Mums in 1934 who sent their children to war ,which reads;

Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.

This memorial is at Anzac Cove in Çanakkale
