Excruciating to watch
I honestly couldn't tell what the intent of this movie was. Pretentious, stilted dialogue, it was just annoying. Ooh, it's artsy! Ooh, it's "moody" and has weird camera angles, pointless cuts between unrelated scenes, and unexplainable cuts to red-hued conversations/rose-petals falling. Ugh.
This was supposedly a nod to the Leopold and Loeb murder, but I don't see it at all, other than "pulling off the perfect crime", which really isn't specific only to the L&L murder. The story's not similar in any way, other than the irritatingly faux-deep conversations about power, and the focus on the mother makes it more like a bad remake of Psycho -- except with brothers instead of an only child.
On top of all that, it's hard to tell if the acting sucked, or if the actors were just saddled with a cheesy, non-realistic, campy script and poor direction. Was it supposed to be funny? If so, it failed there, too.
I'd never recommend this movie to anyone.
