Wait a second.

Is Shane playing a straight character in this film or not? I think he'd need some serious special effects for that. Like, they should have hired Andy Serkis to motion cap that if they were shooting for straight.

It's funny you bring this up.

I don't care if someone is gay or straight or whatever. It's not a "choice". I didn't chose to be straight. People should be free to love whoever they want. I'm saying this to put my next comment in context...

The two male leads in this movie, Shawn and that weird dark haired guy are so incredibly miscast and wrong for their parts it's cringe worthy.

I haven't seen the movie, and won't, but I've seen enough in the trailer and on The Chair. Who is buying these two as a couple of girl crazy guys? THAT is the only funny thing about this movie.

Well considering Shane is actually straight, and has a girlfriend and all that jazz.. he wont need special effects :O Shock horror :P

Well, there is an issue unless one just wants to be dishonest. Everyone I know who watched this and who didn't know anything about the directors just assumed that Shane was gay. Now the Shane-defenders will tell the OP and the rest of us that we are crazy, uncool, homophobes, whatever nonsense because they are true beliebers.

According to his youtube non-stop share-fest of a channel, Shane is bisexual. This is according to Shane himself. He seems gay to me (and to my wife, who has had many gay male friends over the years -- she just assumed he was gay, not bisexual). As a forty year old man who is married and has always been very straight (though I fully support rights for gay people), I have a hard time believing that Shane is "really"straight, unless he is very submissive sexually. And I mean D/s -- and not according to any gender stereotypes. I am absolutely not homophobic in any way. I was just assuming that he was gay -- then I saw many of the rather hysterical (in the sense of over-emotional), often misspelled posts filled with smiley faces and squeals written by his very young tween male and female fans, literally his fans are in the 8-12 year old range, and many of them frantically deny that he is gay, emphasize that he is bisexual NOT "gay," and has an undying "love" for some person named "Lisa" although apparently they have broken up :(

It is the kind of romantic fantasizing silliness that tweens indulge in unfortunately. The fact that Shane WANTS fans in the 8-12 year old range, worries about then and shapes his material to please them, instead of growing and aiming for his own age, college range, and wanting to earn fans in his own peer group seems quite odd.

I don't care if he's gay or not either, it's just completely obvious and unrealistic for the character he's playing. Like one of the other posters mentioned, he doesn't have the acting chops to pull that off.

As for the naive poster who claims he's not gay, I don't want to blow your world apart, but he is most certainly gay. On more than one occasion he comments about sexual acts with men. At the very least he's bi, which is still gay.

If it walks like a duck and quakes like a duck it's still a duck regardless of who it likes to hang out with.

Just because a guy is comfortable enough to joke about being gay does NOT make him gay.

I just finished watching this mess.
Thank the gods for illegal downloads so i didn't spend a penny on this.
Gays can play straight and straights can play gay... it's all about being able to act.
Unfortunately, these two male lead actors can not act and are overly flamboyant throughout.
that might have been a clever device if that was the intent... to be ironic and have the two aggressive horndog male characters actually be overtly flamboyant.
But that clearly wasn't the intent. The two actors are just naturally overly flamboyant in real life and just lack basic acting skills and are incapable of becoming a character.
Acting isn't just remembering your lines and hitting your mark.
but in this crappy film where the standard for good film making seems to be keeping the picture in focus, poor acting is no surprise.
