The montage during Anyone who had a heart

Amazing acting from the actors playing her parents. Conveying the absolute pride in their daughter without hardly moving a muscle.
Also, the men playing the session musicians were all rather, ahem, senior. Makes me wonder if they were actually the original musicians who had performed with Cilla. Would've been a nice touch.

I've been watching that scene over and over again. Perfectly performed and edited. The actors playing Cilla's folks nailed it!

"If this is music, what's that stuff Cole Porter writes?"

Same here. I came to this feeling rather cynical, and wasn't impressed too much at the start, but warmed to it as it went on. By the end of Ep 2 (Anyone Who Had A Heart) I was in floods of tears! I played it again straight away.

Regarding the age of the musicians, I think that was deliberately underlined (cardigans, pipes etc). At the time studios had crews of experienced, professional musicians who had no real investment in the song, but read the music off a sheet - it was just a job. This was no bad thing - I'm listening to some Cilla on headphones right now and the playing, though not passionate, is professional to the max, giving Cilla's wonderful voice the freedom it needs without any distraction from showboating guitarists etc.
