This Prod/Catholic thing Cilla, her folks and Bobby's dad kept spouting.

Really? The CoE and the Roman Catholic Church are virtually indistinguishable. Can't see what the fuss was about. It's not like they were in Belfast or even Glasgow where the divide is much greater between Protestants and RCs. A lot of hot air about nothing.

Don't forget a lot of Liverpudlians were Irish.

If there aren't any skeletons in a man's closet, there's probably a Bertha in his attic.

Cilla and her family weren't.

Sectarianism is surprisingly a big thing in Manchester, Liverpool and parts of the north west of England even these days.

Liverpool has a high influx of Irish immigrants and its reflected in the football teams as well. Everton (Mainly Protestant) Liverpool (Mainly Catholic).

Its that man again!!

Yes, really! It was a huge thing in the UK and Australia right up to the 90's.We had that divide in our family. A Catholic marrying 'outside the faith' to a Protestant was called a 'mixed marriage' and considered intolerable, let alone barely legal. All that in the series rang true to me, as that is how I remember it.
