Two strikes against it

1. Director M. Night Shymalan has been on a LONG losing streak since his first or second film way back in the late 90's. How is he STILL making movies?

2. It's "found footage". God, this is a stupid, cheap-ass genre/film style (and it's even worse when supposedly accomplished filmmakers, rather than amateurs, mine it). With this dead-f^ck genre, you immediately have to throw out almost all the effective elements of horror movies--cinematography, lighting, editing, and realistic acting and dialogue--not to mention basic plausibility (even if she is making a documentary, how does the protagonist manage to capture EVERY single plot point?). Also, another poster already got excoriated for saying the 17-year-old lead actress is pretty, but the fact is she IS pretty, so why put a pretty actress BEHIND the camera instead of in front of it (as opposed to the typical annoying male film geek). This is almost as bad as "Paranormal Activity 4" in this respect.

The best thing I can say about this is that it doesn't really ever throw a third strike. But it's still generally a misbegotten effort.
