It's hard to keep from going down the illegal route when the distribution aspects of films and tv series are so bizarre now--and completely unfathomable.
I support a few sub services like Netflix, Amazon Prime (and the very occasional pay-per-ep on Amazon for series not available anywhere else), Acorn TV and through whatever ROKU pays the channels they post on their system.
But, sometimes you check all sources like that, and come up dry for a film or series.
Then you take a look at some dodgy online sources and there it is.
The question becomes less why are folks pirating, rather than why aren't all films and tv series available SOMEWHERE on a sub service? Many aren't.
I believe in supporting the film and tv industry through as many legal and inexpensive sub services as one needs to see a variety of programming.
But I certainly understand the frustration of viewers who look at 5 or 6 sub services for something popular but come up empty, so go a-pirating to find what they want.
Also, there is the hideously overpriced film offerings on the sub services, too, that might be driving folks to pirate.
I wanted to look at a film on Amazon that was 18 months old and it was $9.99 to rent for 48 hours and $14.99 to "own."
Gimme a break.
I just put it on the Amazon "watchlist" and will wait and maybe it will be moved to Amazon Prime for no extra charge. Meanwhile I looked around and saw it on several illegal sites. But I'd rather not infect my computer with a virus so passed to be cautious.
Sub services are shooting themselves in the foot.
Yea, I really want to check this out , but I'm not wasting time going and getting it illegally or however people obtain them illegally. Hopefully it pops up on Netflix soon or Amazon Prime. I'm sure it will. It's not that important to me to go looking all over to obtain it on my computer. I hate watching things on the computer.

I did read somewhere in the mists of various British newspapers that a U.S. distribution company has obtained this program, but sorry I can't remember which one or which channel...
So much shows up on Amazon video these days, you never know--even though they seem to keep a great deal of the "hot" stuff behind the pay wall of paying per episode and not included in the unlimited viewing provided by an Amazon Prime membership.
There are SO many outlets now, it's hard to know where to look.
It's OT a bit, but I recently discovered yet ANOTHER amazing channel on my ROKU stick--it's ShineNow streaming channel.
They are free with ROKU but with a few short advert breaks that aren't so onerous in a show (they're usually 1 minute or 1:30 and no longer than 1:45 at the longest, and there are only a couple per episode).
That's where I discovered a show I'd long been wanting to see but could not find anywhere: "The Sandhamn Murders" with Jakob Cedergren. There are 3 series on ShineNow (even though there are 5 out there in total.)
They have other non-U.S. programming--British, Scandi collections, etc.
You can watch it on the BBC IPlayer.
You have to change your location.
Alas, not for long as the BBC is currently revamping its online access to go to subscription and stop the "can watch online without tv license."
It will be interesting to see how fast they close the IP relocation loophole.
RTE in Ireland already has done it--they did it last year. IP relocation doesn't work for many VPN services on RTE. I checked with my VPN customer service and they confirmed RTE had installed VPN blocking (they did it right before series 2 of The Fall, which was showing earlier on RTE than on BBC.)

Click on link. Go straight to [Proceed To Video] then on 2nd main screen click on 'X' just outside the [Content Can't Be Played] box. You will get a couple of pop-ups but just click 'em off. Screen will clear. Click start arrow and video should begin.

It is a retro technlogy, but disc is still necessary in order to watch certain productins.

I agree, discs still rock for a multitude of reasons...
One, as you mentioned, is the extra features you get that are nowhere to be found via streaming--interviews, making-of's, deleted scenes.
Another is the fact that when you have a physical product, you can recoup some of your investment via reselling, because you "own" the disc. Not so with files that you rent or buy from places like Amazon--they're just digital bits, and are locked onto your individual computer or device.
Every time a new technology comes along that offers more convenience, people jump on the bandwagon and overlook just what they're giving up for it.

The US premiere is going to be Feb 19th on Viceland. The first episode is already available on demand.
