One thing that made me laugh

One thing about the show that made me laugh and that I didn't understand: Beth and Janice were always wearing these super tall high heels all the time. It didn't seem practical for them to be wearing those type of shoes while chasing down suspects, lol. I was always waiting for one of them to trip and fall over while they were chasing someone.

Okay, but have you ever seen Castle? It annoyed the hell out of me when Beckett (who is a detective as well) always wore those shoes with 6 inches heels. I mean, I hold nothing against heels, women can wear what they what and whenever they want, but not when their job is pretty dangerous and requires serious physical efforts. All those cop shows should be more realistic when when it comes to representation of women.

reply

Yes, I used to watch Castle, and I remember the tall heels that Beckett wears! I agree; the cops shows need to be more realistic and not have women parading around in heels when they're out on the streets chasing down suspects, or at a crime scene. It's pretty ridiculous.

I was going to include this funny pic of Beth in super tall high heels from the finale of Stalker (when she's at a crime scene) but I don't know how to post pics on here, lol.

I think they do that as some sort of 'look what a badass...she can kick butt while in high heels..she's a strong independent woman' thing

She always wore extremely, extremely, ridiculously tight pants as well that looked super uncomfortable...

reply

Yes, those were the tightest pants I had ever seen, lol! And not very flattering.

I guess the purpose was to show off her body lol but they looked so uncomfy..realistically a cop wouldn't be able to move and get around easily in her attire.

Olivia benson from law and order always seemed more realistic...no girly shoes and clothes or long flowing hair to get in the way

The thing that gets me (watching reruns in the UK) is her house/apartment.
'Yes, I'm a cop, running a unit that deals with stalking so I'll have voile over my windows and put my lights on at night while I change my clothes cos that's really sensible and no one can see in'.
Episode 2 .....she does actually have curtains. Pity she only shuts them when she's actually asleep.

It happens so often in dramas where there's a lurking bad guy somewhere, crime or otherwise and it always makes me laugh ....
Must add..on the heels issue. We have had a series called 'Above Suspicion'...(a real low in Brit crime drama) .out heroine totters around in 4 inch heels and a pencil skirt so tight I'm amazed she can walk.
In one episode they had her walking across a muddy field....it was fabulous as they tried to keep her from sinking.....it didn't quite work. Hilarious - unintentionally.

Mal,they are starting to damage my calm!

Yeah, I thought it was odd that it was so easy to see inside her house!

And yes, the clothes that a lot of the female cops wear are just ridiculous. On a couple of the shows, Law & Order: SVU and Chicago PD, the women actually dress appropriately.

reply

Yeah, I agree! Olivia has always had proper clothes for a cop, nothing too ridiculous.
