The missing car

This truly made me giggle. I love how they ask carbonaro questions and he just goes around them so smoothly. He did everything but tell him how he got the keys. Lol

That's actually one thing I hate about this show, how he just dodges the question or skirts around it. It just makes me the viewer whose also asking the question furious. It's almost like he's mocking me and playing me for a dumbass. It's like asking what color is the sky? and he answers "Oh right, but potato chips." His answers make no sense, it doesn't jive right, at least be creative about it.

reply

Uh...he can't exactly answer the questions he's being asked directly. They're directly poking holes in the impossibility of what's happened. He has to deflect to keep their confusion going. And I'm not sure what you mean about his answers making zero sense. I mean, they don't of course, but they're not as off-topic as your sky / chips statement. If someone asks him "how did this bowling ball and this basketball fit in the same box", he answers "to make it lighter, and they invert the air" or "well, they just started shipping them together" or something that just keeps the person confused and doesn't directly explain anything. It's hysterical. He doesn't just respond "potato chips" to something like that. He at least addresses the question, albeit in a way that doesn't answer what they're asking - which is precisely why it's funny. How exactly would you answer peoples' questions more directly than he does without giving away the impossibility of the trick?

reply

Aw that sucks but I get what you're saying though. I caught myself saying " dude just answer the friggin question!" At one point then I just found it funny that he just refuses too.

You know the old expression 'If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull sh*t'? Well that's what he does with his answers. Most of the people he's dealing with are recognizing what he's doing doesn't make sense or isn't possible so he distracts them by confidently spewing some non sense in response to their questions. The confidence he shows in his bull sh*t answers are the key to the whole thing. His act wouldn't work at all if he couldn't give his non sense answers with a straight face.

reply

I know, right?

I love his show, but the point you make is so true.

"How did you get that ball in that box?"
"That's how they pack 'em."
"But how did it fit in there?"
"They add it so that it's lighter."
"But what I don't understand is how both of these balls can fit into that box."
"Right."

WTF?

reply

Haha I actually laughed at that post just remembering that scene. I dunno, I think it's funny when he's messing with people's heads.

That's the point though. I love it.

Skirting around the people's questions is a key part of Michael's act - and he does it very well. He's almost like a politician in this regard, not answering the questions, but appearing to answer something that wasn't asked in the first place, or changing the topic immediately, or a combination of the 2. The politicians could take a page from Michael's book, he's so good at BSing!

I just wish this show was on Foxtv, then it would be cancelled by now. And that Carbon should go back to 2006 and stay there.
