At the end..SPOILERS

Did anyone notice that he took out the last shell from the shotgun before he went to the station. I thought it was pretty important since he decided not to kill Jo and instead commit suicide by cop.

I also liked how the detective is now going to keep an eye on Jo when he gets out just like the other kid. Pretty good story, but also very sad.

I'm surprised he survived a night in those woods without freezing to death.

Warning - Possible SPOILERS:

Even if you didn't notice his removing the shell, the cop opening the rifle to reveal no shells made the point as well. In case his death didn't make the point, the father having said, "I can't stand to breathe the same air as this monster" and the cop having said, "A father who loses a child has no life" made it.

The significance of this "keeping an eye" thing escapes me. I'd prefer we see him loading a police revolver in his home on the day Jo Du-Sik is scheduled to get out of jail after the 6 months or so he serves on a 2 1/2 - 8 year sentence.
