Theory on the Ending (SPOILERS!)

I think most of us are not convinced that Batman died when Wayne Manor exploded. My theory is that Bruce Wayne died, but the Batman lives on. Remember how Obi-Wan said to Darth Vader that "if you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine?" Maybe it was some kind of deal like that. Batman could be more powerful and vengeful as a spirit than he could be as a mortal. Scarecrow saw a vision of that in Arkham after he got a taste of his own medicine, and those thugs who attack that family got to see the real deal.

But what about Alfred? Either he willingly perished in the blast with Bruce OR... a protective barrier dropped when the explosion began. Bruce and Alfred said their goodbyes before the butler ran into the Batcave, then Bruce lifted the barrier and was consumed. Alfred most likely snuck out and went off to begin his life elsewhere.

So Batman did NOT die, he was simply set free.

I thought the batman died when Ace Chemicals exploded and everything that happens after is a dream. Or an implication that the spirit of batman lives on.

And who, pray tell, would be having the dream?

Good question. I never really thought about that. I was just giving a possible explanation to the ending because I to questioned it. It wasn't until I played KNIGHTMARE mode that I thought...no wait...I think I beat knightmare mode and then I started a new game and when the explosion at Ace Chemicals happened I put that theory together.

That much was obvious.

That wasn't a dream. The meeting between Batman and Gordon at Panessa Studios took place before the story even begins so what you see is Batman imagining things from earlier while being intoxicated.

I was pointing out the explosion of ace chemicals foreshadowing the explosion of wayne manor. Not disagreeing with you. I'm open to multiple interpretations. I think the explosion of Wayne Manor was to erase all traces of Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl...etc. I was also aware of the caption that said past and then present day. I'll admit to not having played any other Arkham games besides Arkham Knight.
