...For Kids Who Can't Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too."

Apparently Zoolander opened a second location. Am I the only who finds it hilarious that this is a real thing?

reply

I find it hilarious you think fashion schools only exist in movies.

FIT is one of the top design schools in the world. People go there to study design, photography, graphic design, marketing and more. Everyone from Reem Acre to Michael Kors and Calvin Klein attended.

reply

It's been around for years. I had an Aunt who was a teacher there many years ago.

reply

The school is actually a big deal but I doubt you are the only one who finds it funny but only because no one is the only one to think anything.

reply

FIT is a very prestigious school. You've heard of Google?

reply

Yeah FIT is part of/the main design school of the SUNY (State University of New York) system, so it is obviously part of a well known and accredited university. Kate will definitely receive a great education there.🎓🌆🗽

And yet this prestigious school of fashion design will accept a girl with a 9th grade education and no references (like a SAT test score)... Maybe FIT doesn't require that nonsense to be eligible for entrance... And how come we never actually see her going to school ??? On line maybe ??? But that doesn't fit either cause she has made it clear she doesn't know how to turn a computer on....

Why or how they accept protegees from elite, private high schools in NYC is another story...but I doubt Kate is so inept with a computer that she can't turn one on. I'd thought she'd told Cynthia Rowley & her associates that unlike most of the other candidates, she wasn't very familiar or comfortable designing entirely on a PC using Photoshop.

IT'S A JOKE ..... of course she can turn on a computer.... She has a Facebook page... She has a Twitter account....
She is probably very adept at getting around any computer program she tackles, but who wants to see that ? She told Ms Rowley she generally sketched her designs, so that is what we see.....

Everything Kate and the others do and say on this show is scripted by writers and producers who want to project to the public their version of Amish turning into regular people.....

You are right, it may be another story, yet the same producers and writers injected this theme into this story, therefore I want to see how an Amish girl with a 9th grade education and limited skills was accepted in the first place... This brings me to the point of this show (imo) is a load of BS like 99% of reality shows on TV today....

If the people portrayed on this show acted and lived their lives the way we are shown, my God, good luck in their lives as the future looks very bleak.....

Adobe Photoshop, which is I'm sure what they are using as it is the best, actually takes some time to learn how to use properly. I have used it for years and it has very complex and intricate functions that took quite a while to get a handle on. It is not like the basic photo editors that come on Macs and PCs. And the specific functions that she would need to use for designing can be confusing to learn even for somebody who grew up using computers. So it's really not that unbelievable to me that Kate would have some difficulty using photoshop over traditional sketching.

I actually googled 'programs for fashion designers' and Adobe Photoshop was no where to be found... Photoshop is a great graphics design program (I use it all the time), but I doubted it was useful for fashion design... Adobe Illustrator was listed, and that seemed reasonable to me... And you are correct, learning any program from scratch is a chore, can Kate handle that ? I would say yes, she seems capable to understand and learn fast anything thrown her way...

here is the search I did... www.capterra.com/fashion-design-and-production-software/

A major fashion designer like Cynthia Crowley would have the best programs, which would be one of the Adobe programs. Regardless of whether it is Adobe Photoshop, Adobe illustrator, or Adobe CS Design, these are all equally complex and cost around $800-$900. They are the real deal. I have taken Photoshop/CS Design classes where we had to do basically what Kate would be doing and the functions are pretty intricate. At most she would need to take a course (not a single class). It's not the kind of program you can just play around with and figure it out for yourself. It doesn't have a very smooth user interface like that. It's very technical. It's the kind of program used for industry specific stuff, so Adobe expects you'll have some experience with software and that you'll learn it extensively for whatever you need it for. Even after taking many classes I still do not understand all the different parts of the Adobe illustration programs.

Kate, who was raised Amish, will have some difficulty. I don't doubt she can learn how to do it eventually, but my main point was that it will be a harder task for her than it would be for the person not raised Amish, and it's pretty hard for them too. When Crowley said she'd need to learn photoshop instead of pencil sketches I cringed on Kate's behalf.
