How is it possible to *SPOILERS*

...get away with stealing a corpse?
It really seemed illogical. Isn't desecration of the cemetery a serious crime? And yet nothing happened to them! How is it possible?

reply

Well, anything is possible in the movies, like the thieving in the supermarket.
But, I have read a few posts about this movie and some seem to think the
latter part or the end of the movie was kind of imaginary ... perhaps the
father reflecting back on his term as a father and imagining or dreaming of
how me might do things differently or want them to go in the future?

I am not sure if stealing the corpse of your own family member is that
serious of a crime, though I am sure it is illegal.

You didn't say much, what did you think?

Grave robbing and transporting a body around (not to mention crossing state lines) is probably as illegal as you can get. I'm sure you're not supposed to transport bodies without a heck of a lot of paperwork because of, you know, murders. That they even dig up a huge, heavy coffin at all is beyond ridiculous (one grown man, a couples of teenagers and small children? Please...). Then there is the silly funeral pyre which would not have burned up the body much less transformed it into those tidy ashes. And then the eldest kid goes off to SA having magically acquired a passport and money after years of living off the grid.

This whole film was a cute fairy tale, nothing more.

I totally agree. It makes sense that the last part starting from when the children come out of hiding in the bus to the end is probably imaginary. If it was not then none of this makes sense because the grandfather would have come after him for taking the children and he would most likely lose custody of them. In addition to the whole grave robbing problem.

By the way I didn't like the movie and thought it reminded me of Angelina Jolie's approach to life and parenting. The lifestyle works well for adults but not so much for children who need to be taught a positive balance/coping skills between the outside world versus "how we do things at home".

They filled in the grave. They simply didn't get caught. I don't think the ending was imaginary.

reply

It was a little much, but most cemeteries are not heavily guarded.

reply

Yeah I don't think the ending was imaginary, they filled in the grave so no one will know they've taken her. As for is it possible? seeing as I've never tried it I can't say lol.

reply

Middle of the night.

They did up grave, take her corpse, put coffin back in, cover it back up.

Who'd know the difference? Surely her parents would visit the grave, but why would they suspect anything amiss?

reply

Who'd know the difference?

The cemetery caretakers would know. They'd certainly notice the freshly turned dirt where grass or manicured topsoil used to be.

reply

That is grave robbing, and it is illegal to the best of my knowledge.
