watched it last night - a silly movie

The movie is quaint in places and there is some humor but overall it is a silly independent production. Very campy at the end when they start singing Sweet Child of Mine. Noam Chomsky is a communist. Communism is and has been a disaster. Check out Venezuela.

I agree. Very silly, and the father could be prosecuted on so many things.

Or Cuba, or the old USSR, or China, etc.

Prosecuted on what exactly?

Other than sending his kid up onto the roof to break out their brother, and of course the shoplifting incident, I saw nothing that seemed illegal.

The kids were driven hard but it was clearly shown that they were stronger and more educated than their contemporaries. The main downfall was a lack of social skills, but it still showed them going into town together so they weren't completely isolated.

I'm not against driving children to exceed, but he carried it to ridiculous extremes.

And he could be prosecuted for (1) shoplifting, (2) child endangerment: rock climbing on a sheer cliff (that's really dangerous) and sending his kid up on a roof on a ridiculous rescue mission, (3) trespassing and illegal entry for the aforesaid roof incident, and (4) indecent exposure: letting it all hang out in the doorway of the bus.

You might not agree with those laws, but they are laws and should be respected. He's a bad father and a bad person.

If I went back and viewed it again I could probably come up with more instances of child endangerment, but that's not gonna happen.
