Scryptid: The Swamp Hoax

Thanks, I was just watching a few minutes and I couldn't put my finger on if it was acted or "reality" or a mock-doc. With the Bigfoot hunters and mermaids shows and all. A scripted reality show like a scripted "Supernatural" would be fun.

Looks all fake to me.

It is listed as a dramatization and enhanced story based upon a variety of alleged sightings, legends, and testimony. It was never presented as being 'reality tv'. The people on the show are fictional characters.

Amendment: It is listed as 'reality tv' on IMDB but History.com does not do so. There are, however, real-world professors and scientists that are cut into the show's interview segments.

reply

Thanks Boris.. yep it is listed as "Paranormal"... hopefully the channels are starting to get away from the "Reality" bullspit...

I disagree. Shows like this are ABSOLUTELY presented as reality tv. Even the mermaid special, which provided a disclaimer, did so subtly enough that most people didn't notice. Everything about the production of these shows is designed to make them seem real.

That's why people get frustrated with them, because they feel tricked. Even when it's obvious right away that the show is fake, it feels as if our intelligence is being insulted.

And on top of all that, History Channel is not supposed to feature fictional shows.

Boris: History.com does describe it as a fictional story

....but I thought HISTORY wasn't suppose to have "Fictional" programming ???
Could it be that they are finally coming out as the liars and frauds they have always been..... and all their programming is faked and scripted ???

A lot of these specialty cable channels have had to go outside beyond their original programming. It's been several years since MTV actually had any music programs. How long has it been since the Arts & Entertainment channel (A&E) showed anything to do with the Arts?? Animal Planet has programming about building Tree Houses and a cryptid that may not even exist (Finding Bigfoot). Actually, when History began their Ancient Aliens, they already lost what little credibility they may still have had.

Yep... Cable TV has failed in what it was hoped to be.. and could have been... a channel for every interest...

This show is way too cheap. Notice they using CB radios as official radio's and they work wonderful like high price Police Radios. This down right a joke. Insult my intelligence.

We got close to 200 TV channels and Cable Company keep raising the bill, And we get stuck with this type junk of a excuse for quality TV shows on 99% of the channels.

Out of 200 channels they still is nothing on TV to watch.

I am about ready put Sat. Dish out for my high speed internet. Put antenna up for free TV and Cut Cable Company junk off tell them come and get there junk out of my house.

Agreed this is a great show. Extremely entertaining and that's what it's all about. It doesn't not try to fool the viewer into thinking its real. There are warnings.

Show like Mermaids, or NBA basketball, or anything on TruTV are all much worse at being scripted and portraying themselves as reality.

I totally agree, a waste of time and completely fake and scripted. I am from south Louisiana right where they are filming and this is a joke. There is no such thing going on and bodies are not found eaten up in the swamp by some creature. Bodies are found shot or drowned on the other hand, not this unrealistic bs the history channel wants people to believe. Sure, our grandparents tried to scare us with the Rougarou stories of a shapeshifter that looked more like a wolf or werewolf not a bigfoot that was part evil spirit but no one believes that bs anymore. As for the cast, they are all actors and if they wanted it to look real, they would have used the locals. Luc Baptiste is Britt George an actor from Orlando, Florida who played in True Blood, Dexter, Boston Legal, Supernatural, For Love and Country. Jules D'Entremont is Jimmy Lee Jr. another actor who played on Catch 44, The Iceman and Shark Night 3-D, even Deputy Lambert is a fake and is the obvious James Ricker II from Maine who played in "This Is The End", "Oblivion" with Tom Cruise. Tammany D'Entremont is the actress Rachel Whittle who plays in Beautiful Creatures, Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter, and G I Joe Retalliation. Even the old man with the long beard who claims to be a local is actually an actor name Avon Maser who played in Looper and The Campaign with Will Ferral along with the movies The Colony, Final Destination, Storage Hunters (he's Jebediah on Storage Hunters, so this is scripted too). And Dr. Hans Schmidt is played by John Wettermark who is the actor who is from Mobile Alabama and later moved to New Orleans. He actually played on "Dallas Buyers Club" with Matthew McConaughey as one of the hospital board members. There is no missing body or to make it really outrageos, a body that got up from the morgue and walked off. I had to laugh at that one.

Good friggin Lord, we got your stupid point. Do you really have nothing better to do than to copy and paste this into every single thread on this board? Stop being so butt hurt and move on with your life. It's TV. It's entertainment. Deal with it.
