the premise was done long ago in 'brotherhood of satan'

According to sources I've read, this is a show about people who gain immortality by transferring their consciousness into the bodies of other people, presumably younger, healthier, etc. When those bodies age out, the "intruders" simply transfer yet again, thus living forever.

Well, we've all heard that Hollywood long ago ran out of original ideas, and this may be another example. Recently I caught a low-budget thriller by way of Netflix called "The Brotherhood of Satan," a 1971 cult film which had a similar plot, except it was based on Satanism. In the story, a bunch of elementary-age kids are recruited by an evil character, played by a scenery-chewing Strother Martin, to become bodily hosts of a bunch of Satan-worshipping white-haired oldsters. [spoiler follows] And at the end of the movie, they pull it off, and the senior citizens get to re-live another whole life, starting off as 6- or 8-year-olds.

You think maybe the producers of "Intruders" had seen "Brotherhood" in their youth and subconsciously applied the idea to the series? Just wondering....

It's fun looking for the roots of things, but there's always an even earlier source.

I thought of The Mephisto Waltz, myself. But it goes back at least to Lovecraft's "The Thing on the Doorstep."

I read that Lovecraft wrote similar stories. This show reminded me of walk ins. I read about this in the 90s. Goto wikipedia and look up walk ins. They list alot of other shows with this premise as well as the x files.

I followed your advice and went to Wikipedia, where I was much enlightened about "walk-ins." I had no idea the concept was so widespread among writers and film producers, beginning with H.P. Lovecraft. Thanks for the referral.

It's based on a novel of the same name from a few years ago, but that's not to say the author din't get the idea from a film.

There was a similar idea at play in Being John Malkovich.

Considering Brotherhood of Satan is from 1971, you're only assuming they weren't just copying other movies/novels/short stories. Movies didn't start in the 1970ies.

you really think a writer could subconsciously rip something off?

Hancockenstein, your response made me laugh out loud! And your arch tag about "plot hole" -- too funny (and probably too subtle for the people umbilical-corded to their smartphones). You have a dry wit I very much appreciate.
