What is this about?

The commercials are very interesting, but reveal nothing.

I think that's intentional. I've looked at a few reviews of the novel this is based on, and they all basically refuse to give away what's going on--essentially, people are behaving strangely, as if they aren't themselves. And this cop is trying to find out why. And you find out along with him.

Is there a long-running series in this? Maybe not, but I'm going to give it a chance. I'd settle for one good season, but they would have to tell us what's going on at some point.

One thing I did notice about two of the promos I've seen was that they seem to be playing up the "horror" factor in this show...I'm referring to the one trailer that has the little girl leaning against the bathtub with a bloody corpse in it, and also the one that shows the decapitated head falling into the water.

The novel, while it does have moments of murder and violence, mostly concerns itself with suspense and establishing a mood that sets up it's theme of paranoia and suspicion that people you thought you knew are really someone else entirely. I suppose the TV series will have to play up the more violent aspects of the tale early in order to hold the attention of viewers who expect their bloodlust to be sated.

After two episodes, I still couldn't tell you because the show reveal nothing either. I was watching the pilot with my girlfriend, who hasn't read any synopsis and she still can't tell what it's about.

Yeah, I was having the same issue. I couldn't figure out if these were supposed to be aliens taking over people, or demons, or what.

I'm all for suspense, but I need a little info too. This show reveals nothing, and it makes it difficult to watch. I wasn't even aware it was based off of a book until I came here. Maybe if I'd read the books, I'd understand more, but so far, I'm having a difficult time deciding if I'm going to watch the second episode next week or not. I haven't as of yet, cancelled it from my DVR's lineup, but if it doesn't become a little clearer next week, I might.

Yes, what a shame the pilot episode didn't make the intentions of the bad guys more clearer to sooth the "need to know" of yourself and the poster above you... How dare a new thriller show begin and not clearly explain the entire history of an evil group and make every single one of their intentions and motivations clear!

Well, I happened to have read the novel this show is based on, and you might be interested to know that it is a slow reveal, too, told mostly from the point of view of Jack Whelan's character and how he slowly pieces together the existence of the "Intruders" and what they're all about. The book is definitely a slow reveal, and if you wish to read it for answers I suggest you just skip ahead to the last 50 or so pages so you'll find what you're looking for. Or you could just renew your Adderal prescription and try to enjoy something from the beginning that doesn't give away everything about the story in the first 30 minutes.

I don't think anyone is expecting everything to be given away right up front, just a few breadcrumbs to indicate what the overall premise will be.

I just got around to watching the pilot, and if it weren't for already knowing the main plot, I would have come away more than a little puzzled by what it was about, even in a very general sense. Watching the pilot, all that we're let in on is:

1. Ex-cop's/author's wife seems spacey, then disappears
2. That actor who's in everything now is walking around killing people
3. There's a bratty kid who you'd wish would be killed, but isn't
4. Token conspiracy radio guy gets killed

None of that gives even a hint at what the story arc is going to be. It's all random at this point.

Of course, many people (like me) will stick with it for another couple of episodes, because we expect it to coalesce at some point, but if there isn't some coming together of bits and pieces, even after just a couple of episodes, it's hard to justify hanging in there.

It's a hard thing to master, getting the revelations timed far enough apart to keep an audience happily in suspense, yet close enough to make sure they don't walk out bored too early.
