you can't buy tickets for 24 years into the future

Upon rewatching ep. 1, I noticed that the ticket they gave that teenage girl Donna in the beginning of the show was acquired in 1990, but was for October of 2014.

Great point. They didn't show enough of these tangible signs, but wasted airtime on the little girl rolling her eyes in bed or moaning and groaning.

I'm not so sure about that... Bus tickets aren't date specific for travel, they are only point-to-point, and as long as the company who issued it was still in business I think they'd probably honor it as a valid ticket. Besides, I think the purchaser would have verified that a ticket bought for that far ahead would still be valid then.

The ticket shown to us on the screen was date-specific.

Aside from that, a lot can happen in 24 years, the company can go out of business, plus a million other possibilities.

Besides, how would the purchaser verify that, exactly?

I'd suppose that when you purchased the ticket, you'd have asked the person issuing it if it could be dated for many years in the future. I don't think they'd sell something that was invalid.

Not sure how this is relevant because regardless, you can't buy a ticket for that far into the future.

They wouldn't have been able to get into the house the way that is shown, to place ANY kind of ticket, so the question is moot. You can't get slack on that kind of chain lock without pulling the door back toward the frame. Doing so, decreases the space between the door and frame, making it impossible to fit a hand around the end of the door, in fact the ONLY way to get enough slack to slide the chain head through the hole, is if the door is completely closed, that's its design. The only way to defeat that kind of lock is a saw/bolt cutter, or by brute force. What happened on screen was a writer's fantasy, or supernatural.
