Great, another "I hate the U.S. military!" conspiracy 'thriller'

Beheadings, burning prisoners alive, stoning gays to death, cutting off the private parts of young girls, suicide bombings, car-bombs, kidnapping for ransom, etc. etc. etc.

But no. We are all supposed to watch this movie about a hot MILF Special Forces wife-and-mother, where the REAL enemy is a bunch of white American men.

There are plenty of shows/movies/books out there where the enemy is not a domestic one. Some are actually quite good. Some are even very recent. This show decides to create an action/spy thriller starring a woman. In those stories, having an enemy at home greatly increases the stakes, especially when the intelligence/military community involved is the U.S. on, which happens to be more powerful and usually more capable than any other.

Hollywood has basically three go to villains evil white corporations, evil white crooked officials, or evil white russians. They are afraid of the backlash whenever anyone else is depicted as villains despite real world evidence of who the worst bad guys are. Any such betrayals are "racist."

"evil white corporations, evil white crooked officials, or evil white russians" are far more real threats to your average American than some fundamentalist in the desert.

Glad someone said it. It's hard for me to understand how some people elevate white people to the level that any show that shows them as less than PERFECT is somehow "hateful" or some other bs. I'm white, and American, but let's be real here people. The US military has done some horrible stuff, the CIA has done some horrible stuff, American corporations sometimes do horrible stuff.... it doesn't lessen other horrible stuff done by extremists in other countries, but those things done by extremists don't lessen the atrocities committed by our government either. Being critical of the American government or military is NOT saying "I hate the military". In fact, people who blindly trust the military and the government are much worse than the ones willing to look at facts and willing to be critical of the shady stuff the US does sometimes. Thank god there are people out there who aren't brain washed by the "you're a bad American if you criticize the best country in the world and our superior military" bullcr@p.

@gungfugilman

Excuse me? It's white men who run Hollywood, and there have always been evil white villains in movies,so what the hell are you complaining about? Just shut up your whining already!

reply

Real world evidence shows that white people are and always have been the real bad guys. Do you think Muslim extremists just suddenly rose up one day because there was nothing good on TV? Grow the *beep* up!

We Brits at least acknowledge that we've always had a tendency to put our paws in to other people's honey jars, it's about damn time Americans had the balls to admit the same instead of all this "We spread democracy like an army of angels!" nonsense.

So the 250+ terror attacks in just the last 25 days of Ramadan are the fault of power brokers in Washington and London? I'm not the one that needs to grow up.

reply

It's like you've never watched a movie before.

reply

Nope, I've watched way way too many.

reply

So you have way too much free time on your hands? Go join the military.

reply

No way, then I would end up just like the girl on the show, betrayed by the evil military industrial complex. Besides I'm a little to old for that kind of career change.

reply

I personally am looking forward to Odyssey. If the premise of the show is upsetting, you can go watch American Sniper another 15 times.

reply

It's doubtful any of the negative posters have watched or will watch the show because the posts are well in advance of the premiere.

I've only seen the first two episodes so far. But for what I've seen, the majority of the U.S. Military are portrayed as the good guys.

It would seem that one high ranking Officer might be corrupt (the shock of the possibility that a Col. would sell out for money...).

It seems to be one of those themes where: the U.S. Military gets betrayed by Politicians and Private Corporations. Not like that never ever happened in real-life.

It's not like thousands of US Servicemen/women were killed and wounded in Iraq, getting only a pittance considering the responsibilities and risks they had, against what Private Security Contractors were receiving, and giving their lives to protect Business Interests.

Jackson Browne nailed it perfectly 30 years back. It's no less relevant today.
