Would Odelle really be married to such a wimp?

I know lots of relationships are mysterious in real life, but it's totally unbelievable that she would be married to such a limp-dick idiot like Ron...

I was hoping he would man-up after discovering that the ring was a fake.
But, no he's still a Wuss.

reply

How isn't he manly? He's a good and caring man doing the best he can as a single father after his wife was killed all the while there's a hoax story that she's actually alive, troubling his young daughter even further.

He's not stupid for not jumping to conclusions and trying to find a logical explanation first than going for conspiracy theories.

Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life

He is by no means doing the best he can as a single father. In fact, he's doing an altogether pathetic job as a father. A good father wouldn't constantly - constantly - shoot down his daughter's hope that her mother is still alive. He would at least share with her the hope that she is alive, even if allowing for the possibility that she might not be. He would stop acting so stupidly in absorbing like a sponge every spoken word from the Major. Given the controversy, he'd have had independent DNA testing done on the body when it was returned rather than let the body be cremated (as per the "suggestion" of the Major." And, please: Who in this country would even for a moment believe that the military here is in the business of recreating valuables and keepsakes of soldiers killed in battle so as to spare the families the additional trauma? What a fool...

At every possible turn of the road, every person he brings into the house he insists on trying to make her believe her mother is dead. Frankly, Odelle has acted so stupidly throughout that I actually wish she were dead, and that another of her team had been the survivor. Then, maybe, a smart person might have emerged from the slaughter.

Are you insane? That's a terrible thing to do!

He has every right not to believe in conspiracy theories and there has been no single, shred of evidence that the hoax is nothing more than a hoax.

He is doing the right thing by not making his daughter not try to move on with her life and accept her mother's death.

Given the controversy, he'd have had independent DNA testing done on the body when it was returned rather than let the body be cremated (as per the "suggestion" of the Major."

He has no reason to disbelieve his wife's trusted co-workers and that the hoax is none other than a hoax.

And, please: Who in this country would even for a moment believe that the military here is in the business of recreating valuables and keepsakes of soldiers killed in battle so as to spare the families the additional trauma? What a fool...

It was a plausible explanation and like most of us, he knows little about military protocol to question these practices.

After twenty years of people throwing that quote around it actually makes me cringe now when I read or hear it (not whenever I watch The Usual Suspects itself though; thankfully).

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist.

That's the best explanation you could come up with?

Me too, but I think he manned-up in the season finale when he understandably punched a high-ranking soldier in the face. Not sure who wouldn't, but he did. On the big screen, that might have very well earned some applause. And it was just as understandable that the soldier didn't hit back. He knew he deserved it.

People change. I suspect he was more manly when they met, or better at faking it.

She probably joined the Army to get away from him and be around manly men.

Made you look!

reply

Surprise--opposites attract. Look around.

reply

That's just some dumb cliche saying that isn't actually true. Most people prefer the company of similar people, not opposites.

If you're rich you don't look for poor people to hang out with.
If you're smart you don't look for dumb people to hang out with.
If you're objectively attractive you don't look for objectively ugly people to hang out with.
If you're athletic you don't look for fat, weak people to hang out with.

Look around in the real world. No one wants to be around those that possess traits that they themselves don't possess (and thus don't value).

Saying "opposites attract" is just something faulty people like to say so that they can hold onto hope that they might find someone "better" than them who will put up with their failures as a human being. It rarely ever happens.

edit: The only time you'll really see cases of "opposites" together is when each person has something the other desires. Like an ugly rich guy with a hot poor girl. She trades her attractiveness for his money. Things like that happen, sure, but it isn't "opposites attracting" it's an unspoken transaction, nothing more.

What a disgusting thing to say. He's perfectly manly.

Maybe after confirming to her daughter that she's alive she'll divorce the Wimp and go back to Luc.

I keep trying to picture them together and no way does this fit. On the other hand The daughter is a charmer.

I agree that the couple is an odd duck. Perhaps she feel in love with him a stability for a future shared child when she is out "saving the free world". A kind, mellow, trusting, calm father for her child that she knows will provide a nice home and love for the child. Someone she does not have to worry about while away. I think she values that above all. Not the In love part of a relationship.
