Adaptation of Khamoshi the Musical?

This film looks like a watered-down, sweetened, Frenchified version of the great Hindi film Khamoshi: The Musical (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116763/). Wonder if any acknowledgement or royalty is given/paid. Anyone who has watched both? I have no desire to watch the French film to ruin the experience and memories of one of the most beautiful Indian films.

Hello,

No, it's not the same thing, exept the deaf/mute parents and their daughter who enjoy singing... not the same story or theme.

The World Cup is Coming.

I don't think it's the same thing, but it seems an adaptation to me of the Indian original (not a copy). Deaf-mute parents, daughter who enjoys singing, daughter is talented, daughter's talent getting noticed, conflict between daughter's dreams and parents' insecurity: the whole outline of the plot is exactly same. Goa is France now, and the Indian original had a strong additional dimension of romance.

Apparently there is also a german film with a similar plot also. Did you know about it?

Jenseits der Stille with Sylvie Testud

All three might be coincidence given that Khamoshi was released in Aug '96 and Jenseits der Stille in Dec '96 and now this French with tag of comedy on its head. May they make more to get it right and oscar worthy.

Didn't know about the German film: interesting that both Khamoshi and the German film released a few months apart. I don't read too much into it, but I see French film certainly as a copy of the German one (after reading its plot) and/or an adaptation of Khamoshi.

This movie has the same plot of "Jenseits der Stille/Beyond Silence" with the end of "Mr Holland's Opus".

reply

« with the end of "Mr Holland's Opus". »

I saw both and I don't quite see how it is the same end. Except if you mean that it has an emotional singing end.
