8/10 Classic plot in a movie for the family.

8/10
For me the execution nudged it over, it feels genuine and that gives it that extra push from a 7/10. This is a feelgood movie of sorts.

A movie first and foremost dedicated to liberation, the girl we get to follow has in many ways made her parents and brothers life alot more open (read; with possibilities), once she decides it's time to leave it threatens that liberation. So it's not only about the complications a "normal" family goes through when it starts to mature but one of dual magnitude, the song empasizes the problems along the way and are used as mood pieces in an effectfull manner. I usually do not like movies that bring too much song, but as she is a part of the choir it feels natural and it never takes the upper hand on the movie which would make it feel forced.
The plotline is a basic one but complicated and made reasonable and logical by the sidestories along the way. Neither is it afraid to mix in some dark tones, which made a BIG difference. For a story as this, the acting is well above the average one and the setting in the french countryside is a perfect fit.

The negative is that the plotline is completely predictable, because of how well it's put together I do for once not have an ounce of regret for fully enjoying it even so. Time well spent.

[EDIT] Increased the spoilerphrame even though it does not mention specifics.

Ignorance is only a bliss if you haven't reached awareness.
My imdb posts are getting altered.
