The "Back to the Future" moment is one of the greatest scenes ever

In one of the best films of the year.

As a writer, I absolutely love how that scene plays it. The music is great. The acting is great. It's a fun scene, yet on the other hand it's a really sad scene as well.

reply

Fun but bittersweet works for me.

Sad happy ?

reply

Exactly!

I disagree, That was one of my least favorite scene. It took me out of the film for a little bit.

reply

Scenes like that are what cinema is all about. It's the scene where I realized I was watching a truly special movie.

reply

Agreed. The whole scene is beautiful. The 50s styles (and it makes me laugh that when I actually put gel in my hair, I have the same hairstyle as 50s Conor haha), the choreography, the music... It's beautiful.

And the best part is the beginning and end, that remind us that it's just a fantasy in Conor's head, that the real performance was small, awkward, and disappointing for him... In the fantasy, we see everything he wants. His brother there, his parents to be happy together, and for Raphina to be there, happy to see him, with everyone dancing in synchronicity... Only for it to cut back. It's just him, the boys, and a tiny group of a few kids awkwardly dancing and giggling because they have no clue what to do. No parents being happy. No Brendan... No Raphina.

Such a beautiful scene in an extreme number of ways.

I don't feel enough for you to cry.

Oh well.

You described the scene perfectly, InsecureNeuroticControlFreak.

agreed, it felt like it would be one of the big finale endings of the film where everyone is happy. But instead it plays out as a bittersweet scene that shows the grounded harsh reality the film already presents
