Gender difference in reaction to flilm

Every guy I know who has seen Sing Street along with myself love the movie. Women I know who have seen it either thought it was ok or didn't like it that much. I think its because the themes of the film are something men connect to more.

The closing line reads "for brothers everywhere" so I guess it taps into something extra for guys in terms of that brother dynamic too.

Since the Director John Carney went to that same Christian Brothers School as a kid and delt with all the horrible treatment that was known to exist in that school at the time, I interpreted the " For Brothers Everywhere " credit at the end as being addressed to all the brothers that went to that school and had the lived through that treatment. The movie exposed some of that and I think he was paying homage to all the past kids at that school by bringing it up in the film.

Just my take.

I'm a woman and I absolutely adore this movie, however I can see how perhaps men would connect more to the themes of being bullied and beaten up, or called names because they like wearing makeup and women's clothing.

I'm a chick and I absolutely loved this movie. The dialogue was hysterical and the music was amazing and really fit the 80s setting.

I think more guys are going to relate both to the being outcasts and bullied and to ever doing anything just to impress a girl.

I think it's just the luck of the draw with your friends... every woman I know who has seen it, loves it.

Yes I have, I didn't like it quite as much as Begin Again or Sing Street, but still very enjoyable!
