While I enjoyed the film, I must gripe....

The first 3 songs they made all sounded like songs that could come from the 80's. The rest of the songs at the end did not. Especially the song about the one priest in school. Sounded like some pop punk song or something.

Also the lead singer never played an instrument or sang and all the sudden he's a musical prodigy?! It's hard to write songs and these guys just did it on a whim!

I respectfully disagree. Conor, the main character did have and play a guitar. I guess he "could" sing. He wrote the songs with the assistance of his John Lennon, Mark, who arguably was prodigious.

I agree the songs were too polished for such a recently formed band...so what! The songs were great. Haven't you ever cast away reality and just enjoyed the film?

The songs were all typical of the time, including the specific song you referenced. Punk was already a thing. That type of song could have been written by tons of artists including, but not limited to, Joe Jackson for one or the Clash for another.

Steven Tyler, the lead singer of the rock group Aerosmith, was only 17 when he wrote the epic song " Dream On" Lots of groups like Duran Duran, Genesis, Metallica, U2 , etc had members that started their music playing and song writing when they were still in High school, so it really isn't a big stretch to think that these kids could have collaborated with each other and come up with the songs in the movie. Plenty of other movies out there require you to suspend disbelief much more greatly than Sing Street did. Especially the ones with a man in a rocket suit flying around and stopping aliens from killing earthlings, or Men who suddenly turn into massive green monsters at the moment they get angry .

I agree on the songs. The last 3 upbeat songs sounded *just* like the Jonas Brothers.

I agree on some level it does seem to happen kind of abruptly. But if think of it as a musical and not a realistic film it makes more sense.

Did you not notice the modern clothes too? That was the point.
