I liked this movie back when it was called 'Bug.'

This makes Bug look like a masterpiece.

Aside from this movie just being horrible in general, it really made me angry to see it so blatantly rip off Bug.

I kind of see a similarity only in Martin's paranoia but Michael Shannon was 1000 times better and far less irritating.

The two movies have literally nothing in common.

Both movies are about a veteran who believes that the government experimented on him. In both films he covers the inside of his living space with aluminium foil and behaves increasingly erratically. In both films, he rips out his tooth, smashes it, and then claims to see evidence of this government plot in the tooth (in Bug it's some bugs, in Pod it's a tracking device).

They have a lot in common, thematically and in terms of major story beats. The relationships are different, and they leave the house more in Pod. But the biggest difference is obviously the third act. Bug leans into the "what was real??" angle, while Pod goes with the genuine sci-fi horror finale, and a topping of cliched government conspiracy cover up to finish.

So you like a movie, and then all they do is change the name and that would make you suddenly not like it?

I much preferred Bug. This was a lot like an episode of the X Files. Seriously Mulder and Scully could have easily taken the siblings spot and it wouldn't have made much of a diffrence. One was a skeptic and one wanted to believe. It would have likely been alot stronger if it were an episode of the X Files though (actually there's no doubt about it).
