Classic

I thought this movie was hilarious from start to finish. Jack Black was great. Only other person I could see playing his role would be Galafanakis but I would not change that after seeing it. Hilarious concept that took dark twists but pretty good script all in all. Great supporting roles from Hahn, Tambor, and of course Marsden. You might think it isn't original by watching the trailer but expect the unexpected.

Zach can play straight and dark. check him out in "It's kind of a funny story" and "Visioneers". maybe "Gigantic", but it's barely a supporting role.

"Operation: Endgame" aka "Frenemy" seems like a "favor for a friend" movie he did and/or to pay some bills right before Hangover broke him into the limelight.

I'd rather see him in any of those type of roles than another "funny schlub" like Alan or in G-Force.

I think it could be a cult classic some day

reply

Possibly in another dimension.

reply

Agreed! OP, you're either delusional or don't understand what real cult classics are if you think this could be one someday. If cults were made up of gay adult males doing drugs, ruining their marriages and work lives, then sure, this fits that description!

reply

If you think you're soooo smart why don't you explain to us what a "real" cult movie could be... Light us up with your "unique" wisdom!! You're just a arrogant *beep* This movie is awesome and it's not your arrogance that will make me think otherwise.

reply

Nope. Loved it. Cringed through it and laughed. Liked Marsden in this. Love Hahn and Tambor. Different and quirky but a good movie

reply

LOLOLOLOLOLO You do understand that you just described the cult of right-winged Christianity, right?

reply

Lol all you want, you obviously don't know what a cult is, and furthermore, if you want to enjoy watching a painful train wreck of a gay sex movie, be my guest - this isn't a classic and isn't what it was advertised to be, keep your ignorant views of religion AND politics out of it

reply

Yeah I definitely saw a whole other thing in my mind when I saw the trailer. That was one hell of a twist that ended up taking up most of the movie. It didn't ruin it for me, everyone did a great acting job...and it wasn't cliche. But I d think they missed out on some good opportunities to take in this type of film focusing so much on that plot twist.

Think most cult movies come out and get either 1.0 grades or 9,5 grades, they dont come out and get 5.4IMDB grades its either love or hate and nothing between.
Which according to me isnt at all this movie.

reply

I thought that cult movies are those movies who either are hated once they come out or that didn't pretty well in the box office or to the audience and that only after like mostly 5 years afterwards it actually gets the credits it kinda deserves. Well is finally liked by a lot of people.

I thought that was a cult movie. For instance I do not understand why they say Pulp Fiction is a cult movie if it did great since it's release. Or do I mix things up?

Thank you so much for providing us with your definition of a, "Cult film"....I do agree that cult films are generally polarizing.

However, I think the following provides a broader and more accurate checklist:

1. Marginality Content falls outside general cultural norms
2. Suppression Subject to censor, ridicule, lawsuit, or exclusion
3. Economics Box office flop upon release but eventually profitable
4. Transgression Content breaks social, moral, or legal rules
5. Cult following Generates devoted minority audience
6. Community Audience is or becomes self-identified group
7. Quotation Lines of dialog become common language
8. Iconography Establishes or revives cult icons

Well, I watched this last night, and quite frankly, I think it only raised a couple of weak grins from me the whole picture. Overall, I thought a waste of time and considered Jack Black's acting skills were on vacation for this one.
And generally speaking, I like him. I don't think the script did him any favours at all.

My friends and I adore this movie. It's definitely one of our favorites from 2015 and something we talk about a lot. It's bizarre and genius.
