I think you are right. And they are all should be women too.
But why stop there? Don't you think it's unfair that they only take physically fit, highly educated people to be astronauts? The space program would only win if there would be a peaceful Muslim shepperd (he'd space the gay guy in the second episode and this way you could sympathise with them both), an African child-soldier, a lesbian or two, something trans-gender and a Democratic party commissar to lead the mission.

This show isn't interested in the current times, this is about history not the present day.

Most heroes wear capes, my heroes wear dog tags and kevlar.

These men were heros. So which one would you have them randomly change the narrative of their life? First American in space? First man to orbit earth? Whose accomplishments would you like to cast aside to create a version of ACTUAL EVENTS that you feel is more palatable?

Really, nobody says," I don't want any blacks or gays in my show, so I will only do historical shows about times and situations where there were no blacks or gays," They don't use history as excuse.

I don't think this series is attempting to inspire Americans. It is just a summer mini series about the actual original astronauts. You know that in our current times there is diversity in NASA.

It is impossible for those who produce historical shows to please everyone. If they are accurate and don't cast anyone black or gay, they are accused of racism. If they do make the characters and cast diverse, then they are slammed for being inaccurate.

If this were a show about a fictional group of astronauts, they could make them anything they wanted, but it isn't. There are no Native Americans in the cast and no women astronauts either.

I know there are many people who are racist out there. It is a terrible thing, especially given current events. But really, everyone is not racist.
