I noticed the human Twilight is in it. This is just pure speculation on my part, but perhaps it's the Twilight who's native to our world, the same way the human versions of Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack and Pinkie were native to our world in the first film. I'm guessing Twilight (who of course would know nothing of the events from the first movie, since it wouldn't be the same Twilight who came from Equestria) probably transfers to Canterlot High and ends up joining the band.

I'm looking forward to it since I personally enjoyed the first movie, for what it was. (I know there's people who didn't like the movie, which is fine, I respect your opinions.)

I just don't know what went wrong...

I'm not gonna lie, I absolutely loved the first movie. Much like you, I respect the opinions of those who didn't like it. I am really looking forward to a new EQG, but I wouldn't make predictions about how Twilight got back there, because knowing the writers, they're gonna come up with something downright brilliant that nobody would ever think of. You never know until you know, you know? Anyways, I've just gotta say that I already can't wait and the fact that it's coming out this year just makes me even more excited.

Do you know if it has a release date my daughter found the YouTube trailer and won't stop moaning to watch it haha

Not sure if at the moment Hasbro has announced a specific release date yet. All I know is it's coming out this fall.

For the time being your daughter will just have to content herself with watching new episodes of season 4 as they come out.

Not for Equestria Girls, just the regular My Little Pony Friendship is Magic show.

I thought the first movie was okay, but the sequel was an improvement in every way. Better songs, better animation, better writing and characterization, and a more interesting villain this time around. And a cameo that made me laugh out loud.
