A lot of you missed the point

Quit worrying about what happened to Sam and Sophia and Cat. That wasn't the point at all. The murders were not the point. The whole movie was a take on pop culture and social media turning EVERYONE INTO GIANT VACUOUS DOUCHE BAGS WHO HATE EVERYONE BUT HATE THEMSELVES EVEN MORE.

Pretentious idiots.

The fact that none of you catch that proves her point.

No introspection.

I think you also missed the mental health theme throughout the movie. The girls were all 12 years old, in which psychosis symptoms start to appear. Specially how Cat apparently early onset of schizophrenia, displayed early through cyberbullying.

The movie was just not about cyberbullying, but focused on several medical and mental heath issues, such as eating disorders and alcoholism.

And you know this because.........

No, schizophrenia in women has a median onset of 25. It tends to show up even more in women after the age of thirty, likely due to hormonal changes. It's why gynecologists don't recommend removal of the ovaries any longer, unless you have BRCA 1 or BRCA 2 gene expression in your family history.

You cannot diagnose schizophrenia in a 12 year old unless you're a dangerous *beep* of a shrink.

I thought the themes were more about problems that girls and women have specifically, i.e. eating disorders, body image, narcissism, etc.

Hey now.

It was obviously the point of the entire film. The problem is the title. It should not be #Horror. More like, as you said, #DoucheBehavior, #Idiots or #Bitches.

Edit: OK I just read why she named it #Horror. I still don't think the title fits as well as #Horrific might. I was expecting a really cool cyberbully movie mixed with Scream or something. No biggie though.

Subkoff stated that she was inspired to write the film after a discussion she'd had with one of her friends' daughters, who had been cyberbullied.[1] "[The idea] started because I asked my friend's daughter, "What is horror, to you?" This girl was cyberbullied very badly... Now, I was bullied badly as a kid, but I could always change schools. I could always go home. Now you can't…when bullying follows you home, and there's no escape and no end, to me, that's horror. And to so many girls, that's just life."[1]

Personally I think it is ridiculous that these children even have iPhones or smartphones. Just give them a normal phone for emergencies. They are too young to have the entire world at their fingertips like that. Especially when [albeit sadly] school should be their priority. I don't have kids but I think that their focus should be on their growing brains and playing outside in the fresh air. Developing their imaginations etc. You can never go back to that innocent, care free, time. Which is no longer care free.

Of course kids don't want to do their homework, talk to their parents, or live their lives. They are too busy being wrapped up in, like the OP said, wifi and Social Media. To me that is depressing.

What to me is depressing is "adults assuming kids are entirley wrapped up in "social media", etc. Kids are kids, and your negative take on how kids use the internet is what makes it worse. Kids are getting smarter. For example... Social media isn't Dumb its allowing kids to transport their thoughts to each other quicker. Kids still love fresh air, but its you negative nancys over there who claim they know about everyone who are encouraging this us vs. them mentality.

I don't give a *beep* about that. I give a *beep* about the horrible ugly 'phone' graphics sprinkled throughout this film like so much *beep* The film would have worked so much better otherwise. Horrible and distracting as all hell.

I think you all missed the point - regardless of the underlying themes intended by this movie, it was irrelevant because it was so utterly terrible and not worthy of wasting people's time with its horridness. This excuse for a movie was so poorly acted/written/directed any messages it had were lost in its utter incompetence. The only thing to take away from it is the filmmakers should never be allowed near a camera again.

It's a movie aimed to make money while trying to be "controversial". Not a good medium to trigger introspection and not controversial at all. More like "boring" and "dull".

It's also based around the ludicrous idea of "cyberbullying" in a world where saying anything negative online makes people cry about said "cyberbullying".

reply

Cyberbullying is not just about saying something negative.
