How the finale should have ended

You have Danny in John's head convincing him to go tell Nolan the truth, John finally gives in and is ready to come clean about it. John walks out to the dock and straight up tells him without any hesitation "I killed Danny", John looks relieved to finally tell the truth, he looks to have some peace. Nolan looks sad but not surprised, John starts to say something else, and Nolan pulls a gun out and shoots him in the head.

I think that ending would have been shocking, and it would have ended with everyone in the family getting paid back for all the wrong doing they done. The entire family left in shambles, John dead, Kevin in prison, Meg gone to never come back, Sally devastated and broken from all her children being dead/gone.
