Show is not half as interesting without Danny.

I finished season 1, and I loved it. However, I wasn't sure where they were going to go, since Danny was the driving force behind the show.

Sure enough, I'm 3 episodes into season 2, and it's not half as interesting anymore. Love him or hate him, Danny was the most compelling character, and even the other characters that are good were all made more interesting by reflecting off of him. With him gone, it just feels like the magic spark the show had left with him.

I'm going to give it the full chance and finish it, but I have to say, they probably should have left it as a one-season show, because so far season 2 is definitely nowhere near as good as season 1 was.

reply

Okay, I just finished season 2... I changed my mind.

I still like season 1 better, but season 2 was still captivating. And they did manage to keep Danny all over the season, through flashbacks & ghost conversations.

And the plot itself picked up better than I thought it would.

The actors all grew into their roles a bit more, and John Leguizamo is a nice addition.

Good stuff, looking forward to season 3 now.

I get why they had to do a second season. All of these Netflix shows that are hits are getting more seasons, even if they are not designed for multiple seasons. Season 3 sucks. Bit if you have to watch, do yourself a favor and skip episode 9.

reply

Yep, pretty much. Episode 9 is so stupid.

reply

Man, I just started S3...I figured since it was the last season I mines well watch till the end. I know S2 was rocky, so I'm bummed to see it hasn't improved much.

I'm only an episode in though so I haven't seen what they've done with this season so far, but I was hoping it could end strong! I too, think it would've been better off as a miniseries. I remember watching S1 thinking that was it and was surprised to see they kept going. Oh well, it was still a well made and put together show!

The problem for season 3 is with the writing and editing. The acting is good enough to keep the audience; they did a good job with the material they were given. Cutting it to 5 or 6 episodes and moving some scenes around would have helped. There is a lot of filler, which consists of:

- drinking and arguing
- calling the hell out of people who don't answer the phone
- asking people for advice and not listening to them
- a random character does something random
- conversations with dead people who give advice

The ending is OK. Not great, but ends on a reasonable stopping point.

reply

Ah, the dreaded filler! That's always a killer....a lot of that is avoided now that shows have shorter seasons, but it seems like it did not escape them here. Perhaps if they had just done a long Part 1 and Part 2 sort of thing to wrap up everything and let it be instead of feeling like they had to tag on stuff to reach it to 10 episodes.

Oh well, I guess I'll see how I like the rest of it. I'm glad the ending isn't totally terrible though!

reply

Hey Dreamers!

I didn't realize S3 was out yet. Agree with you about S2 and am sorry to hear they didn't get back on their feet in S3. Maybe it'll improve as the season goes on. I'll watch it regardless, because I liked S1 so well, and parts of S2.

reply

Hello there, Cat!

I hope you're able to enjoy the final season. It always sucks seeing a show be a shell of its former self, cause man, S1 is so damn good. I'm still glad they made the show though, if only for the stellar performances.

reply

Well, thanks to you, I watched the first few episodes last night.

I thought there were some great shots in the first 5 minutes of the first episode, and it wasn't as bad as I'd feared after reading your post. No doubt the lowering of my expectations helped, but I didn't hate it.

I'm going to start a new thread on S3, before saying anything more, so people will be forewarned about spoilers.

reply

To clarify I've only seen the first episode of S3 so far, I was discussing it off the backs of what the above posters were saying. So, I have no idea if I'll hate or it love it, really...I just know how last season wasn't as good as the first.

I'm sure I'll more thoughts as I finish up S3! I'll make sure to check your thread out!

reply

I agree, S2 was disappointing.

I'm up to E4 now, and am enjoying it so far, so maybe you will too :)

reply

Awesome, I hope so!

reply

Just starting E7 now, and it's pretty gripping for me! I didn't see how they'd be able to squeeze a good third season out of this, but so far it's working, IMO. What a mess!

reply

Gosh, they are a hot mess, but what family isn't?! haha....I need to get binging on it!

reply

Oh just wait. It's getting unbelievably messy. Muuuch worse than your average family!

reply

Cool! I might message you as I get more into it, haha!

reply

Feel free to message me!

I'm glad I've gotten into S3. I'd have gotten further but last night my Netflix app went south and I couldn't watch any more. Maybe it's up again today.

reply

I'm feeling claustrophobic...gulp

reply

I gather you're watching season 3 [laugh]

reply

No. Finished a long time ago. It's this dang reply window. It's gotten Small.lol. Probably my settings.

reply

Wrong, the show is just simply not interesting without Danny.

reply

It definitely took a huge hit. Season 1 is by far the best. I am glad I watched season 2 & 3 though. Even though it ends on kind of a dud, the series was worth watching overall.

reply

I do agree, the problem is for me anyway was, I felt sorry for danny in Season 1 and was really cheering him on, and in season 2 and 3, you just want the Rayburns to get what is coming to them, and it's hard to root for anyone. Sally comes out as the WORST of the lot by the end of season 3.

reply

I really do not get, or like, the fact that so many people
seem to worship the bad guys in movies and TV ... they
celebrate what they call "darkness" and hate anyone who
is good. Well, it is hard or impossible to find anyone who
is good in Bloodline, but Danny, and Kevin were both really
irritating. Hated them, but they drove the story along,
such that it was.
