Don't waste your time on this boring movie

Not sure why some people are giving this movie such decent ratings. I gave it a 5 and thats me being nice.

I watch horror type movies all the time, all variety, not the biggest fan of the torture-porn type, more the psychological type. So now you know where I'm coming from.

Please, don't waste your time on this boring movie. The other poster(s) must be doing some new form of trolling where they try and convince you to waste your time watching a terrible movie.

I was also disappointed. I enjoy slow burn movies but the dialogue and acting was really bad. The ghosts and atmosphere were decent though

reply

I've seen worse.

im beginning to think that some people need something happening every 10 seconds and everything spelled out for them to enjoy a movie while they are stuck to their phones

give me a break

It's a full moon . . .

Actually the problem with this movie isn't that there isn't a beheading every five minutes, but that the writing is poor, the idea staggeringly unoriginal, the direction completely devoid of inspiration, and most of the acting insufficient to say the least. This is a home movie with some decent gore effects thrown in. Why would anybody think this is a great horror movie, or even a good one?

This just didn't work for me at all.

i tottally agree.they made many of the samme mistakes the fulcio did with the original house by the cemetary, allthought fulcio at lest filled the blancs with cool music and atmosphere.

(Keanu Reeves) Whoa, you can quote words! TY for adding nothing of value to the topic.

reply

It had no value to begin with.

The movie is listed under horror, as I said in the OP. And I found it lacking. So why is that worth quoting rather then providing your opinion on the movie? If you don't care, why comment at all? So you lack the motivation to communicate like an adult and what, you want us to know that? The forums are for talking about movies, not being a dick for no reason, far too much of that on here.

reply

I quoted it because I thought it was funny. I mean - who in the world says "I watch horror type movies"? They're called horror movies.

being a dick for no reason, far too much of that on here.

That's also funny, because I considered saying more or less the same to you. You seem very aggressive.

So you drop an insult, then I ask you to explain, then a second insult, and it takes how many replies to get the answer, but you are not being rude?

Horror types movies, as in, there are many different genre of horror related movies these days; horror type movies. People often disagree if a movie is horror, or horror enough, or what type of horror, how much horror, so yes, horror type, or genre if you prefer.

There are many films not even listed as horror that come off as more of horror film then those listed as such. Who says, "I watch horror type movies", apparently I do and so do many others:

Oh look, a Google search on Horror Types Movies: https://www.google.com/search?q=horror+type+movies&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 (About 43,100,000 results)

lone-foxx doesn't hate horror-type movies, some of his best friends are horror-type movies!

reply

I don't see any results there that include the phrase "horror type movies".
You have to use quotes to get results with the multiple words in sequence, like so:
https://www.google.com/webhp?ie=UTF-8&rct=j#q=%22horror+type+movies%22

Now we're down to a mere 1,880 results.
Of course, this a ridiculous thing to argue about but at least it gave me the opportunity to teach you to use Google.

You didn't look very hard. The phrase came up three times on the first page. Lazy and passive aggressive, but don't point it out, noooo, that would rude.

reply

You didn't look very hard.

Of course I didn't! I didn't need to because I know how to do a correct search and I did one, yielding 1,880 results.

Wow! Are you trying to win the IMDb Douche Award?

"Horror-type movies" is perfectly acceptable and clear; it broadens the scope beyond just "horror movies" as not everyone and not every site or catalog agrees on the classification of some films. The same film that may be listed as "Horror" somewhere may very well be listed as a "Thriller" somewhere else.

There's also a difference between being smart and being a smart-ass, but since you seem to be only the latter, guess I need to explain that one too?

Ignorance is bliss... 'til it posts on the Internet, then, it's annoying.

I enjoyed the movie, but wasn't as enamored with it as other people seem to be. Also, I see the word "throwback" thrown around a lot (especially as it regards to this movie) as an excuse for poor acting, lighting, and sound design. The stiff, wincing dialog was mercifully sparse, the lighting was lazy and inappropriate (if you don't have the VFX budget to make a ghost look look authentic in direct sunlight don't film so many scenes in broad daylight), and the soundtrack consisted of public domain Audacity samples. A good example of a "throwback" movie that feels modern would be Drive or The Guest.

Thankfully, the positives outweighed the negatives. Creepy antagonists, interesting lore (loved that the ghosts were merely a means to an end and not really "the big bad"), and the gory climax all kept me entertained.

I have to agree 1 hour 6 minutes of this was too long, even though at the start i was screaming A FILM THAT IS BARELY THE SAME LENGTH AS X FACTOR BUT THERE YOU GO....X FACTOR MEETS HORROR AND BING, BANG, BOSH, JOB DONE IN AN HOUR SUMS THIS CRAP UP . Seen it all before and anything good that came, IE the gore in the final couple of minutes did not make up for the bore for the previous 1 hour and 5 minutes.

reply

Agreed. I was pretty disappointed because I had heard such huge amounts of praise.

More viral overhype.

Thank you! I read all the rave reviews and by the end of this movie I wasn't sure we had seen the same movie. Yeah, OK, it's scary in a "stormy Saturday afternoon and I'm only 11 years old" sort of way, but I was expecting more. The basic plot wasn't that bad but in the end it seemed more like a school project than a feature film.

stormy Saturday afternoon and I'm only 11 years old
God how I miss those days. Almost everything was scary back then.

"I didn't like it, therefor people who did are wrong and misleading you."

Typical trash post I should expect from the internet. Personally, I liked it. If someone else doesn't, that's fine. But that kind of "your own personal opinion is wrong" attitude is just, well, retarded. If someone's curious to watch it, let them judge it for themselves. They may like it, they may not. Neither opinion is wrong. To act like an opinion can be wrong...You know what, I have a feeling I'm wasting my breath. Even if you for some reason decided to be rational all of a sudden, there will always, always be people who act like an opposing opinion is "wrong". Get over yourselves...Christ.

reply

I don't mind the slow-burn horror movies and I thought this one went by at a good pace.

If you thought this was boring you should never watch Ti Wests horror films..
