The 'good ol' boys' politics.
I wonder how prevealant this mentality is in real life small towns? I really hope it doesn't exist too often, but unfortunately I suspect it does.

shareYeah, it does. I live in a small town with about 800 people. Small town politics runs rampant around here! The mayor is a member of the most powerful family in town. What a shock! Everything that goes on is for the political gain of the powerful. People who "know people," get away with stuff. Ie: when they get in trouble it doesn't make the papers and noone ever knows about it...
sharewhen they get in trouble it doesn't make the papers and noone ever knows about it...Yeah that seems to be the main problem. At least though in most small towns I think "getting away" with stuff usually means getting out of a parking ticket and not murder, but it's still perturbing. I just knew in this movie that Sandy going to the authorities was going to do no good because his buddy the sheriff wasn't going to take anything she said seriously.
You're right. Probably not murder. But harassment, stalking, domestic abuse. Those are the things I'm personally aware of, I'm sure there's more...
shareThat's so sad, because small towns have a certain charm. I live outside Los Angeles so I've always lived in a larger city...smallest was 25,000. That 'town' mentality sounds like what goes on in the corporate world, 'good ol' boys club' YES, 'political jungle' YES, 'nepotism' YES, 'favoritism' YES', it's all about 'who you know.'
I've thought of retiring to a small town, but I guess I'll stay in the bigger towns, I like to keep my business private.
Knock if off Napolean make yourself a dang quesadil-la!
small towns have better bbq.
