The director talks about how his 2009 documentary "Fixer" inspired his narrative feature debut as well as how he drew parallels between Northern California, where he grew up, and the Middle East, the film's soundtrack and the intimidation of his first feature film:

Thanks for the link, I will check it out. I just watched this movie. I live in the Russian River area of Sonoma County (where the film takes place). I had no idea, when starting the film, that it was even filmed here. I'm hoping more people see this, as I want to discuss it!
