More about psychology than politics.
When I see two grown men, both highly educated, do the academic version of 'you're a poo poo head! No, you're a poo poo head!' and they obviously have a visceral dislike of each other, I can not seriously think it has anything to do with something as insignificant in real life as politics. To me these men were mirror images and when presented with their own self loathing sitting opposite of each other, they resort to childish insults. They might be wordy educated insults, but the emotion behind them is silly and juvenile. As far as self loathing, who knows, homosexuality, or guilt as being wealthy or maybe just being kind of 'wimpy nerds' I don't know, what does it matter? Anytime I see someone who has a real emotional anger towards political propaganda bs, I always think it is anger at something else redirected at politics. Maybe I am projecting because the times I get angry at politics I always come to realize I'm really angry at something else that I don't want to deal with (being a failure in my career, depression, personal crap, whatever). Anyway, anytime people get worked up about politics I think it's BS, a result of boredom, angst, sexual frustration etc. I mean it's just politics, it's like someone having a real hatred of an opposing sports team, transferred anger. I think the left (political elites I mean) are really good at channeling this, I remember being a teen and after listening to angry music somehow convincing myself that I was dissatisfied with life because of Reagan or corporate America etc when I was probably just pissed because I couldn't get laid. The right does it too, promoting the idea that a large national government is someone actually affecting your life, when you can pretty much do what you want in terms of normal life stuff. I hate politics, it's a bunch of hyped up bs and both sides are just business people in the business of government, I suppose the most successful business in the country.
