Gore Vidal a gutsy man ahead of his time

Watching this documentary gave me more respect for Vidal's courage and guts. Yes he was a great debater and it was fun to see him incite Buckley into losing it but I was also impressed by his willingness to express controversial opinions like the idea homosexuality is as normal as heterosexuality. Those were the days you'd be publicly scorned, considered a criminal or mentally ill for being gay. I enjoyed the documentary alot and left very impressed by him.

Yes, Gore exposed Buckley as the total fraud and bigot he was. And remember, Buckley is considered the intellectual father of modern conservatism. Let's say instead that Buckley is actually the L. Ron Hubbard of modern conservatism.

People see things as they want them to be, not as they are. You are the case in point.

So you're disagreeing with the other poster that bigot William F. Buckley was the "intellectual father of modern conservatism." I suppose that means you're going to select Barry Goldwater instead.

Gore vidal was a thinker, a humanist, a man ahead of his time. In turn, WFB was a man full of contempt, prejudice and hatred against the weak and poor.
